There are six docked at Polyarny, Wiki says they are pretty quiet attack boats.

Any opinions or comments on these?

Thanks

Diesel electric. Not that quiet. As a former sailor involved in ASW, they aren't that quiet. Their specialty is running in shallow water, where it is harder to get your sonar gear into.

Very quiet considering that they probably aren't seaworthy. "Silent service" indeed.

THIS,

Any gloating about the quality/capability of Russian ships/planes is purely intentional.

A quick look at Google Earth indeed confirms six Kilos there along with a few other class boats. One thing I'd like to see is Google Earth update their pictures at least on a some what regular basis. Looks like that's wishful thinking on my part.

Definitely not an Akula 3 by any strech of imagination. Let's just say, the Akula 3's are in a class by themselves.

Maybe someone can answer this for me;  what are the window like objects on the conning towers of various Russian subs?  It looks like the Kilo class them, but I know the Oscar IIs have them (Kursk, etc.).  Are those actual windows (a la portholes?) or acoustic equipment media?

Sounds like the beginning of a Tom Clancy novel - "There are six docked at Polyarny."
