Anyone know how to make 'em?
I'm thinking some sort of combo b/w magnesium and smokeless powder. Is it even legal? |

KClO4 and Aluminum powder would be a better option in my opinion. Just be careful. Also make sure you are grounded. One spark and your significant other will be reading about you in the obituaries.
Smokeless powder is composed of nitrocellulose, nitroglycerin and stablizers. Over time these compounds decompose into nitrogen oxides ie (NO2 and NO). These will react with water to form nitric acid and nitrous acid respectively. Acid + Mg = H2 gas. While this reaction will not be fast enough to cause a massive explosion it will reduce the shelf life of the "flash bang". The magnesium will be slowly rendered inert. Aluminum is much more resilient to oxidization and storage. KClO4 doesn't decompose either. |

OTOH, building and storing such devices would be both dangerous and illegal. Have fun.

It's called a disposable camera in the dark.
Picked this one up in basic for the USNSCC. Our Company Commander apparently pulled this trick on one of us in my company that was on guard/fire duty that night. Sneak up on someone in the dark, get around them at the right angle, snap the camera in their face. Flash goes off, they can't see for a few seconds, you're in control. I know it isn't as practical as the actual grenade per se, but that was six years ago and I won't soon forget it. Clever little trick. If anything, you get facial shots of all your victims

Well if you can burn powder in a gun then you should be able to burn powder outside of the gun right? I kinda doubt the ATF will take kindly to this... Worst case scenario you scare the neighborhood kids a little a bit and they go home cryin to mommie and daddie. Daddie calls up police. Police pay you a visit and have a little chat with your dad and.... |

old fashioned flashbulbs can be rigged into a ball that will trigger on impact (battery in the middle of the ball ) If you put enough thought into it , you can make them "ripple" in sequence causing 8-10 really fast flashes and completely screwing thier vision for a few minutes.
ETA : the bang part you provide directly afterword by more "conventional " means |

AR15.com Code of Conduct:
3.) Posting or linking to information on how to make illegal modifications to firearms or purchase illegal items.
That includes manufacture of NFA items. It is understood that these items CAN be legal if proper paperwork is completed, but the actual manufacturing information should not be posted. Just call me Mr. Buzzkill. |

I personally don't intend on making one.
Although, I don't know how a flashbang would be considered a DD. It's not destructive...Except to maybe one's hearing. The only reason I ask is that the topic came up at work earlier when one cowoker mentioned that him and his brother have a long tradition of playing nasty April Fool's jokes on each other. The topic of flashbangs came up. I'll let you figure the rest out. |

try getting your hands on those new rolling flashlights that they only sell to cops.
half way down the page |

Flashbangs are DD's and their manufacture is legal under certain circumstances which the OP hasn't really met. Your welcome to discuss the manufacture of DDs as soon as someone provides evidence of a valid Form 1 and tax stamp for manufacturing one. Till then, this one's getting locked.
