You have already captured at just about the highest resolution you are likely to get. Typical NTSC video DVDs (not HD-DVD) have a resolution of 720 x 480. Your capture is 712 x 456, which is almost the full resolution. The only thing I can suggest to improve things ever so slightly would be to save in a lossless format like .BMP or .TIF or .PNG. That way you won't suffer any small additional losses due to the compression in .JPG. But don't count on that making much, if any, noticeable difference. You could also try the built-in capture feature of DVD playback software like PowerDVD or WinDVD. That might get you the few extra pixels going from 712 x 456 to 720 x 480 (assuming that the playback software you are using right now is clipping the image for some reason - overscan???) In any event, you have already captured pretty much all the detail there is to capture, and probably won't be able to do significantly better. |
P.S. For good quality enlargements of the small captures, download IrfanView and resample using the Lanczos filter:
