 I Accidentally Blew Up My Gyrojet Never expected to see this. I have seen these things being fired in a documentary. But I think the footage was in black and white and blurry. The final malfunction with the barrel flying out is downright cartoonish. The rest of the footage is quite cinematic. Maybe this will spark interest in building new rocket pistols? But I doubt it.

  Gyrojet pistols actually saw some combat service with MACV SOG operators in Vietnam (SOG having purchased the pistols under the mistaken impression they were silent), including being used by First Lieutenant George Kenton Sisler, SOG's first Medal of Honor recipient. |

These are awesome, especially in slo-mo. My dad says he's remembers seeing them advertised in the 60's/70's. It's too bad the ammo is all so old, that seems to be the main problem with their reliability. They also seem super dangerous, since it's self propelled a ricochet that changes the bullet's original trajectory could send it full speed in unexpected directions. |

They found several of the projectiles on the berm. They didn't appear to be prone to richet. They found 3 - including the one stuck in the barrel. A couple of times out of the gel targets the rocket had clearly deviated from its original path and looked to be heading in a different direction. At one point they allude to a projectile that clearly went over the berm. One of the rounds that hit the berm you can see skittering around still under power. |

Still classified as a firearm since it uses burning propellant to propel a projectile. No rifling allows you to avoid AOW and SBR but full auto still applies You could do a similar one with compressed gas that could be full auto as its then an air gun. |
