For many years, my wife and I have been in charge of the Scriture Study in our parish and have used the Little Rock Scripture Study as the basis for it. However, attendance has dwindled, and with costs going up and donations going down due to the economy, we're trying to find something to take it's place. We generally meet once a week, and usually have a fall session and a spring session - in line with the school year at our parish.
I'd appreciate any suggestions, along with an explanation of what you liked about any particular series. Thanks in advance, XD-GEM |

This may not be exactly what you are looking for, but if you picked a topic to address at your study sessions, this guide is useful in sending you to the appropriate Bible passages. In other words for example, "What does the Bible say about our duties as a citizen?" and the of course the corresponding passages... Then of course the class could discuss what they've read. You can even compare between the translations.
God's Yellow Pages If not, it's a good personal resource... |

Our parish uses the Great Adventure Bible Study set from Jeff Cavins. I'm a big fan of it, helped this formerly lapsed catholic get back home. Cavins also does other series like Adventures in Matthew, Acts, or Revelations

| While it's not a scripture study per se, my previous parish did an Adult Faith Formation based on the Footprints of God series by Steve Ray. We would watch a chapter of the DVD (About 20 minutes) then discuss using the Study Guide. Many of the DVDs are available on Netflix (if someone has a membership) or they could be purchased by the parish one at a time and kept in the library for future use. Some of the Study Guides can be found on-line here. The Study Guide questions have lots of scripture and CCC references. |

Having taken Jeff Cavins' Great Adventure bible study as a theology class at Franciscan University of Steubenville, I can't recommend it enough! My wife and some friends just finished it, as well, and it is even better now that he has polished up his materials.
Anything from Jeff Cavins, Steve Ray, Scott Hahn, Fr. Mitch Pacwa, or Fr. John Corapi would be good for a Scripture study. |
