Found this cat tonight in front of the house. He wouldn't leave me alone, and is very friendly. Seems like a Maine Coon. Any ideas?  Going to be calling animal control in the morning. Hoping he has a microchip.

Looks like some Main Coon in that mix!  So, he adopted you? Sweet.

You have been selected.  Congrats on the new cat.  (Provided it's not chipped.)

Looks like you captured someones cat.  I would ask my neighbors if it belongs to them.  Don't give it to animal control, it will get three days and be gone.

Any vet will scan for a chip.

Awfully friendly and clean.  Probably has a home.

Do you have an electronic stud finder handy?  Wave it over the cat's front shoulders and it will trigger if it passes over an RFID chip.
I'm not sure if it works 100% of the time, but it works on all of our pets.

ETA:  That cat looks way too clean to be a stray.

Don't take him to animal control, he'll get wacked.

Put an ad up on craigslist, posters around the neighborhood etc. If no one claims him either keep him or find a home for him with friends or coworkers, or put up an ad on Craigslist and find him some decent people.

Edit to add: Where are you in AZ? If you can't find him a home and can't keep him then I might be able to take him if you're near Tucson.

Thanks for the advice.  I'll call some vets tomorrow and see if they can find a chip. Going to be making some posters, too.  Cat is awfully friendly and very clean and well fed. Bought a litter box and he went right for it. He's someone's cat.

Looks like it is partially Maine Coon.

They are super friendly!

I was sitting on the couch one day and felt something brushing up against my leg. Scared the living shit out of me.

I looked down and it was a Maine Coon cat, friendly as could be.

I still don't know how the hell it got in.

Long-hairs take maintenance to look like that. That kitty is someones pet.

My Maine Coon looks like a nappy headed sea rat after just a few weeks without brushing.

A lot of cats won't put up with being held like that, but the good ones will.

Maine Coon. Think of it as a dog, but with a fluffy kitty exterior.

Do not call animal control.
Go to the vet to check for a chip.
"The Pound" has very slim odds of survival. Think of it as death row for animals.

Congrats on your new best buddy.

Yeah, I might do this.

Cat seems pretty cool, better that they're friendly than loners.

All my Maine Coons have been this way. They are just dog-cats...

My current one will let me do what I like to call "kitty sacrifice". I hold him upside down while arches his back and stretches his paws out and gets about 4 feet long. I then lift him over my head and chant "KALIMA!!!!"

Maine Coons love water. If you hear a faucet running chances are the cat turned it on

Mine like to splash around in the shower after I get out. I can't let them in while I'm showering, or I'd be blow-drying cats every morning.

Or for fun... turn the water on when he sitting there... see how friendly he is.

No chip... he's yours. Take care of him. Good kittah

Little guy's got an impression on a sofa somewhere calling his name.  Never known a hard day in his life.

Someone's going to miss him.  Hopefully you find the owner.

Definitely Maine Coon, with a hint of Norwegian Forest Cat, or Tabby.

Edit: Our big boy

The cat is probably your neighbor's. Cats make themselves at home in other people's houses all the time.

Throw it out and it will find its way home.

Doesn't mean it's well-treated.  The neighbors' friendly, clean cat was treated so badly at their home (witnessed by another neighbor) that she slept in the snow in my yard rather than stay warm in their house.  Finally rehomed where she's happy, now you can't get her outside.

you have yourself a new kitteh, congrats.

part coon for sure, eyes are a little too round to have much norwegian.

had a totally healthy norwegian adopt me a couple of years ago, a perfect coat but had obviously been homeless for pretty much his entire short life, vet estimated he'd survived a high desert winter for most of his estimated six months age.  once you got past his marvelous coat though it was plain to tell this poor little guy was starving.  no more.  he's fat and sassy, and loves me dearly.  funny, both he and my other rescue kitty boy think i'm their mom, the kneading and faux nursing and incessant purring is something else.

rescues are the bomb, especially when they adopt you.

enjoy your new friend.

Main coon, but he also has some mackerel tabby blood in him.  See the M on the forehead and look at the pattern.

Very nice cat!

Just put up "found CAT" posters around the neighborhood withOUT a picture. Pet Smart, Petco can scan for chips too. They tell you the number and which company to call. They will contact the owner for you and pass your number on to them.

If no chip and no luck on the posters .... YOU have a new cat. He picked you. Its the way it works.
