My Step Father's dad recently passed away, among his things was this old bayonet.

It has a metal scabbard, some sort of symbol on it, and a serial number on the back of the handle. It has some rust on it, the bayonet release button is totally rusted in place. No other history of it is known.

Any information on it would be very much appreciated.

I took some photos.....

My guess is that it's a short-bladed type as issued with the Japanese Arisaka rifle.

At a guess I would say a Japanese Arisaka bayonet from WW II.

I was thinking "Mauser bayonet", but Google proved me wrong.  It definitely does look like the Japanese bayonet in the link above.

It is Japanese. An early Type 30 with a Koshikawa Arsenal stamp.

I'll give you 1000 yen for it!

well it doesn't belong to me. its going to my step father's brother.

Thanks for the fast ID guys.

Now the only mystery is how did he acquire it. I don't think he was in WWII.

Your guess is 100% correct. It is a japanese Arisaka bayonet. It fits the Japanese type 99 rifles.
