I am applying for health insurance. Does anyone in the business know wtf this means?

Yes No If you do have credible coverage, indicate one of following: I (or any person for whom I am applying) have creditable coverage, but I would like to waive my HIPAA rights and apply for an underwritten plan with Pre-Existing Condition Waiting Periods and medical underwriting. If you select this option, please proceed with this application. I (or any person for whom I am applying) have creditable coverage, but do not wish to waive my HIPAA rights. I would like to apply for a guaranteed issue policy with no Pre-Existing Condition Waiting Period or medical underwriting. If you select this option, STOP. See your agent for a different application for guaranteed issue coverage. |

If I'm reading this correctly, they want you to waive your HIPAA rights (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) meaning that they probably want to see your last 10 years medical records before issuing a premium or giving a quote.
If you do NOT wish to waive your HIPAA rights, they cannot inspect your prior medical records or claims and the only way they will underwrite your policy is at an astronomical "we'll take anything..." rate that no one in their right mind would ever agree to...thus they deny you coverage. ETA: I am not a policy underwriter nor am I an attorney and I do not play either role on TV. |
