I have none. I don't have the option to get it through work.

To those of you that pay out of pocket for health insurance, what is a good company to go with?

I want to get insurance for my wife and I, and I have no idea where to get it from or where to start. We are both in our early/mid twenties. No kids. What's an average I would pay for health insurance monthly?

Thanks.

I am self employed and get mine through our local hospital.  For my wife, son and myself it is400.00 per month and that is $5000 deductible for her and I.  My son is 12 and he has a $500.00 deductible

Basically I just have SHTF insurance and pay most everything else out of pocket.  Thank God we are healthy..

That sounds like a lot for insurance compared to others that I've heard about.

Check out Golden Rule. http://www.goldenrule.com/
I have it just for myself but they have other plans. Mine is 195 / month. 5000 deductible then they pay 100%. $35 office co pay. BTW I'm 45 and self employed.

I'm self employed and use Aetna.  It is about $120/month, and has been very good from what I have used it.  I would assume that for two, it would be about $120/per.    The deductible varies, but $20 to as high as $100 ($100 was an ER trip to get stitches, $20 co pay doctor visit and prescription).

Wife and I are 57, daughter is 20.

With Blue Cross it was $3,000 a month.

Had to get it down, went with a catastrophic policy for only $1500 a month.
Blue Cross again, and I looked.
Each family member has a $4,000 deductible. Which really means that we pay for everything unless they are about to throw dirt on our face.

Basically, it sucks and it has sucked for the last 8 years or more.
Problem is once you get turned down you are almost fucked and that is nothing new with ObomaCare.

Moral of the story:

1) Do not grow older than you are now.
2) Do not every need to use it.

You should be fine.

Find an independant insurance agency and have them prepare quotes for you.

The reason you want an indepandant agent is so they can get quotes from several different insurance companies in order to get the best rate/policy to fit your needs. Going to a specific insurance company and you will get only what they sell.

There are so many variables here and so many different types of policies that comparing someone else's coverage/premium to you is almost always apples to oranges.

+1 I only use independent agents for my personal and company insurance.

When it got to personal health insurance it is a fucking mess, like I said, it is a hellva Catch 22 when or if you get denied.

Good luck,
