Shopping around for tools. What do you plan to buy from HF?
Looking to buy a car jack and looks like this one has good reviews and its only $30. ANyone have experience with this one? https://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/floor-jacks/2-ton-compact-trolley-jack-69468.html |

Do yourself a favor and pay a little more for a jack like this one. They regularly put it on sale for 59.99 or you can use a coupon. You won't regret it. Long handle makes it easier to place it under the car where you want it, and easier to pump it up. I have been using this jack every day for the last 8 months doing roadside assistance without a failure |

I was looking at that too. would 1.5 tons be good for jacking up a full size SUV too? Why does harbor freight sometimes have like 3-4 items, and they all look the same, the only difference is the model number? Cant answer the question about there model numbers. |

They have a pretty good pneumatic impact at Harbor Freight for around the house. I think it's called the Earthquake XL. I buy hand tools and shit even the Chinese can't fuck up at hazard fraud, nothing more. |

I'm getting to buy one of their portable bandsaws for $99. Seems like an awesome deal!
They have it on sale for $99 in their most recent ad...... Bandsaw |

I do have one of their jackstands that failed. The ratcheting mechanism doesn't lock anymore and it will not stay extended. Easy to fix but I'm no longer confident it isn't made from questionable materials. Another -1 for their jackstands. Last week I tried some of their sawzall blades. They're worthless.
Their hammers (including the jackstand insert I now use as a makeshift hammer) and breaker bars are great. Kinda hard to screw those up. I did buy a dc welder from them that had good reviews online. It does exactly what it's supposed to so far. |

I don't buy anything from them because I can't afford to support Democrats on the west coast. |

Just got some stuff from there for father's day... The auto darkening welding helmet seems to work OK with the 90-amp flux core wire welder I picked up (also done the DCEN conversion), with the DCEN conversion it seems to get good reviews. The ratcheting tap handle is GREAT for using larger taps and with the extendable handles makes tapping a breeze. Also picked up some 1/4" shank indexable C2 carbide lathe tool bits which seems to have good reviews, since I haven't learned to grind my own HSS tool bits yet .

The 2 ton aluminum lo pro jack is a beast. I have two in my garage, and 4 at work. Tjey literally get used every day. After a year or so of daily use and abuse, they start to fail. Ive had the two in my garage for a few years, tjey still look and work like new.
The jack stands are also good. I have 4 in the garage, and 16 at work. Never once had a failure. The angle grinder is very good. The black nitril gloves are awesome because they are cheap and durable. The pneumatic impact gun is awesome. They are up there with snap-on according to guys who review harbor freight vs. All the big dollar tools on youtube. |

I need a new heat gun as my old HF one gave up the ghost after four years. Not bad for $9 I'd say. |

Wrong.......I've tested that wrench, it puts out slightly more torque that advertised. Quoted:

Get a three ton jack for the suv. Their daytona jack is nice I just have a regular 3 ton i think it's HF got it from my neighbor.Â
And two sets of these. 12 ton jack stands amazon don't screw around with a heavy suv. |
| Wow that is really telling. I guess one shouldn't expect anything different from some California liberal outfit. Some of the shit they peddle is ok for once or twice use but most of it is cheap Chinese trash. |

I have a bunch of things from HF that I'm very satisfied with.
Engines, log splitter, power washer, blast cabinet, 12" saw, compressor, shop press, hydraulic mower lift ......... $7 delivery to your door. Then throw in a free tape measure. I beat the ever loving snot out of their impact sockets with zero failures. Their abrasive consumables are a fantastic deal. 2 wheel dolly, appliance dolly, 4 wheel furniture dollies ..... all awesome. Their 20 ton bottle jacks were an absolute steal. Zero issues return policy. Even with mail order. They sent me a return slip for the 12" saw that arrived with a small crack in the casting from shipping, and a new one showed up a a week later. No idea why folks gripe. The tool market really needed a correction. If you want to charge a lot, you better be bringing something special to the table. |

The combination wrench sets are better than some of the crap Craftsman was shipping to customers.
The angle grinder that can be found as low as $9.99 at parking lot super sales can shame some Black & Decker units. Drill bits - avoid these like black plague.
Tee Post puller - whimpy, failed before I got 20 pulled. The BIG HD steel floor jacks were great - the aluminum units I have had have been less than satisfactory - until I applied my own safety repairs. It should not require machine shop mods to make a product safe! I bought the little $24.95 steel trolly jack for my mini Nissan pickup since the OEM did not come with the truck from the prior owner. Works good but rattles all the time as you drive. The 8 gal $99 compressor I bought is in daily use, bought it about Y2K (just before). I have had to replace the pressure regulator (for output line pressure) about 2011. I have 3 of the 3 high black roll away tool box sets. Don't pay more than $149 for these. The newer red boxes have roller slides and much better fit and finish. Between all the Kennedy Machinist roll aways and the HF boxes I am really short on space. I would not trust a HF welding rig, however for awhile HF had a plasma cutter that got reviews and had dirt cheap consumables that really had good service life. No idea on the current status. 2 ton chain hoist is only a few dollars more than the 1 ton unit but is seriously stronger. - Apply same to the engine hoists. They work well - just don't trust them. When you quit for the night - or just lunch - lower your load onto blocks or other supports just to be safe. Come-along pullers... you get what you pay for, barely. DO NOT USE FOR VERTICAL LIFTING!!!! I now buy better heavier units via Amazon. Generators - no, and there is plenty of info on this all over the net. Needless to say you can get far superior units for less elsewhere. (and yeah I do have one of the old HF blue $79 two strokes) Solar kits - no |

I would not buy a jack or stands, ramps ,anything that supports or holds weight from Harbor Freight. Buy all the junk you like from there. But draw the line at shit that can get you dead. HF has REALLY improved their quality in the past few years. That said, personally I use cribbing for weighty/squishy stuff. But I'm a big chicken. |

It still works. |

My mechanic has a Strap-On tool box and a cart that are worthy (cost) more than my house, but last week he showed me the HF floor jack he had just bought. He did have a sheepish grin but he said the thing works great, and is highly rated. HF has REALLY improved their quality in the past few years. Just out of curiosity, how do you do your cribbing? I've seen 2x4 scrap screwed and glued into a reasonable looking structure and 4 or 6x stacked up solid. Quoted:

Wow.Â
Fuck HF indeed... |

I have various pieces, so nothing fancy. Most of what I use is 6X6 pieces cut off from my porch posts. In a pinch I've even used concrete blocks--properly stacked, of course, so they don't lose strength. Otherwise random pieces of wood to get things just right. The main thing is to think of how it could/would fall if it was going to do so. Laying underneath cranking with all your might on a breaker bar is a common culprit.
Use a good impact instead. Thanked my lucky stars that I didn't have my leg underneath the rotor and control arm when it happened. I'd probably be mah_leg on here
I do think I will invest in a decent impact wrench. Thanks. |
