| Noticed the inside unit wasn't working last night, had quite a bit of condensation on it and the filter was pretty damp. Outside unit was still going from what my roommate said. He said it was showing a lockout code not sure which one since he reset it before I came down to check it out. I said just leave the system off for the night incase its frozen up. He let the thermostat run all night instead, I don't know if this did any harm or not. Neither unit will turn on today, supposedly its all pretty new and it does look that way. I've dealt with my fair share of A/C related issues at my older house with a much older system but I've never quite experienced this. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. |
| Before you get a dozen guesses from people that aren't there, I'd recommend calling a HVAC guy and let him do the diagnostic. Might be something simple like a fuse, or might be something expensive. No way to know until someone who knows what they're doing troubleshoots it. |
| Ya, I was giving it some time before I called my landlord. IIRC there was some strong wording in the lease about the A/C system so I was just going through all the simple stuff first. As of now neither unit are doing anything still, so at some point someone will be by to look at it. |

Your condensation line is clogged that shut down the unit. That's one of the first things that came to mind. Used to happen a lot in my old place and would cause the unit to freeze. I pulled out the overflow switch though and it was good, looked down in the stand pipe for the drain and didn't see anything either. |

Bumping this up since I'm having issues again with this unit. Last time, the control board and blower motor went out. Maybe a week after they fixed it I started getting water backing up into the house. We cleared out the drain and everything was fine for a couple weeks and then yesterday noticed the blower motor wasn't turning off. Pulled the cover off to force it off. At the same time we noticed the unit was also backing up with water again, blew out the drain and the water just seeps out from the slab. There is a pipe exiting the foundation but it barely sticks out an inch and apparently isn't connected to shit. Did I mention this thing is only a year old? They say the blower motor is out again, won't be able to replace it until Tuesday.
My question is, isn't the float switch supposed to turn the unit off once it starts backing up to prevent this sort of thing from happening. They didn't seem too concerned with finding out why these things keep going out, they just keep putting a new motor on it. Last time they left without even verifying it was working and had to come back. Anyway, my lease is up next month and I had thought about re-signing but I'm having second thoughts now. Last time it went out it was 5 days no A/C, this time it will be 3 days, all within a month-ish. My landlord last time didn't seem too concerned, this time she suggest I go stay with some friends .
