Just purchased a gun safe that weighs 600 pounds empty.  It measures about 2' x 3' so it is covering 6 square feet of floor space.  According to building codes the wood framed floor will support 40 pounds per square foot or 240 pounds in 6 sq ft.  Am I figuring this correctly that the floor system must be reinforced to be able to support my safe?

I hope you don't weigh more than 80 lbs.

Seems low.  A person standing may take up one sq foot and weigh more than 40 lbs.

40lbs per square foot wouldn't even support a full grown man, no?

Don't jump, you'll fall through the floor.

Back to the chalkboard.

Read the safe forums.  A standard floor will easily hold that and a lot more.

A loaded gun safe is no where near the weight of a water-bed.

You are right.  If I stood on one foot I am way over the 40 lb per sq ft.  Never thought of that,  Thanks for the reply.  The safe is going in my office!  Thanks

Thanks for the reply.  New to this forum stuff.  How do I zero in on the "safe forum"
