I told my 83 yr old mother she needs to start acting more like a grumpy old person when dealing with shitheads.
Example: "I told you not to put that box there, Whats wrong with you? Are you deaf or just stupid?" (Post your Grumpy old people comments) |

I had a grumpy old fart come into our office the other week. Felt he should be allowed to go into secure areas, walk into peoples offices, use peoples phones, do whatever the fuck he wanted. Every time you stopped him, "What!? Not even for a WW2 vet!?" Sir, you can't go in there... "What!? Not even for a WW2 vet!?" Sir, you can't use that computer... "What!? Not even for a WW2 vet!?" Sir, you can't sit there (right in the middle of a hallway)... "What!? Not even for a WW2 vet!?"

I'm in my early 50's.
My wife and I were watching Gran Torino back when it was in theaters. Early in the film I leaned over and whispered to her "I want to be like him when I get old". She came right back "you already are". 
Embrace your inner grouchy old man. He knows a snot nosed punk when he sees one. I mentor a high school robotics team. Around my second year I started hearing kids whispering about the "death stare". My son informed me that was the look that some outstanding individuals were getting from me. It took me about two years to figure out what my "death stare" is.  It's when I just don't understand - either what a kid is doing, why he's doing it, or what he's talking about.
Right is right. If that makes me a grumpy old man, that's fine with me. |
