I want to to track some stuff using a database versus Excel.  I have Access 2010, but was wondering if there is anything out there that is free, easy to use and maybe has templates?  FWIW, I want to track my whiskey as well as component weights.  TIA.

SQLite.  It's very lightweight, free, and there are numerous front-ends you can get to work with your database.

MS SQL Express is another answer - and you should be able to get its updates through your existing MS updates path
SQL Express 2016

OR

After Oracle acquired MySQL, it was forked into Maria DB by the original creators. Something about Oracle and free software, Java, etc.
If you're going to go MySQL, you might as well go for the newest version. (MariaDB)
