[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Good 9mm Subcompact? (Page 1 of 3)

Just wondering what ARFcom recommends for a decent 9mm subcompact? I've thought about getting a KelTec PF9... since it is pretty darn small I also like the Walther PPS. How reliable is the KelTec PF9? What is the difference in size between the two? What other subcompact guns does ARFcom recommend? ETA: I don't want a Glock 26. Yes I know Glock makes great products, but it's just too bulky. |

G26 is a good doublestack gun. Check out Kahr 9mm's for pocket carry. They have a new model that runs around $410 that's gotten good reviews, and is smaller than a S&W J frame.

Quoted: A lot of people have problems with kel tecs. The PPS is very accurate and reliable. The Glock 26 is also very reliable, but thicker and not as small as the PPS or other single stack guns. LC9 or PM9 if you got the coin. Kel-Tec is good as long as you don't plan to put a gazzillion rounds through one of their firearms. My boss has had to send his PF9 six times. Just to be honest this is a gun used in CCW classes so it gets heavy use. |

Quoted: The Kimber Solo is a true sub-compact 9mm. It easily fits in to a pocket with measurably less bulk than a G26. Think 1911 slide profile in a much smaller package. I had a chance to shoot one recently and I liked it so much that when they become more available I plan on buying one. http://www.glensoutdoors.com/v/vspfiles/photos/3900002-2T.jpg These appear to have serious functionality issues based on threads in the Kimber forum here. Looks like lots and lots of feeding problems. |

Keltecs are hit or miss, they either work great, need to be sent back then work great, or will never work.
That said I really Like my Keltec P11, it's the thinest double stack 9 I've seen, and with the right holster and pants, It holds 12+1 and you can even carry it in your pocket. It also takes s&w 5906 mags, which come in a multitude of flavors up to 30 rounds. |

I pocket carry a P11 all the time. It's not actually 100% right now but if I have to use it in a situation, I plan to be pulling the trigger fast enough that the restrike capability will save me, hopefully.
I have a couple XD SC's and they shoot as good as my G19 but are still too bulky to carry the way I like. The Khar's had lot's of issues at one time, didn't they? You might also want to check out the Taurus SlimLine. |

I'm between the PPS, PF-9 and Kahr PM9 now, too.
I'm leaning towards the Walther because of the flexibility of the grip size, using different magazines, and because of how thin it is. The KelTec is the clear winner on price, and the Kahr is overall a good pistol, though. We've been waiting for the Boberg XR9s for a while now. While they're still a good while from being produced in large numbers, the first people on the waiting list will have them before too much longer. It's a very intriguing little gun. |

H&K P2000sk. Expensive, but worth it. If the Glock 26 is too bulky for the OP, the P2KSK will be way too big. I've shot my brother's and feel it competes more closely with the Glock 19 and Commander-sizes pistols. FWIW, I had the same dilemma. Ultimately went with the slightly bulkier glock 26 for its ability to share mags with my 19s. |

From what I understand some of the early ones are problematic. |

I had a P-11 that was unreliable. My Sub-2000 was shipped without an extractor. I contacted the company about them sending an extractor, but they never did. It isn't needed on a blowback except for unloading the gun. I kept buying them thinking I just got a lemon. After watching others at the range, I realized they put out a lot of lemons. I love virtually every gun company. KTs are fine for range toys, but I don't want to trust one as my last resort gun. |

I've heard very good things about the G26, M&P9C, and PPS. Gotta be a well hung lesbian to reach the mag release on the PPS. I'd have bought one if it weren't for that fact...... I'm an average sized, blue collar skilled tradesman who can't reach the mag release lever. They must make people different in Germany... |
