Can someone fill me in on what the difference is in the various generations of Glocks? Example: G19 2nd Generation or G31 3rd Generation |

1st Gen = Only Glock 17s and a VERY few G19s (no checkering, very smooth grips) 2nd Gen = Has checkering on front and back strap of grip 2.5 Gen = Glock 26 and 27s have finger grooves but not checkering at the finger grooves. 3rd Gen = Has finger grooves with checkering between them, 'thumb rests' and full size and compact models have rails. |

2nd Gen does not have finger grooves. I like 2nd Gen better than 3rd personally. I don't use a tac rail anyway, so the lack of one on 2nd gen models doesn't bother me. Not really it's a 3rd Gen. The G29s and G30s just recently started coming with rails. They're compact models. The subcompact models (G26, G27, G33) don't have rails. They started using the rails on G29s and G30 because these pistols are optional for some departments who use the G20 and G21 and they wanted all officers to have the capability to mount a light w/o additional hardware. |
