Not your run of the mill nest scenario. We are fixing our duck blind up for the season. Found one nest inside. Sprayed it and killed what was there. They are paper wasps, so not overly aggressive. When we returned I found several hiding in a ball of felt paper and brush on a piece of OSB that was rotting and needed replaced. Sunk that under water. Two days ago we built a new boat hide. Went to tear off the last piece of OSB that was rotted and found some more. Not many, but enough to get the heart rate up. This morning we killed some more, and then I discovered half a dozen or so underneath a corner of plywood that was pulling away from the stud, killed those. We keep seeing a couple here and there, and usually get their attention when using the Paslode, pounding nails, or running screws in with the drill. Things that vibrate the walls. Otherwise we don't know they are there. I'm at a loss trying to keep them away. Obviously once temps start dipping they will die off, but the deadline is pretty much the end of September so I need to keep plugging away at this. Anything I can do to keep them away? Anything I can spray that won't instantly kill them so they can take it back to wherever they are going? ETA-The walls are only sheeted on the outside, so I know they aren't IN the walls. The only real possibilities are that they are coming back to try and rebuild, or are in the brush that was left up from last season on the outside, Which I have sprayed already. I did pick up some foaming killer to try and get deeper in the brush. |

Wasps are assholes Truth. Here is what I have learned fighting the little bastards. You have to wait til they are ALL back at the nest.......which they all come back to at dark. Don't do nothing til then or as you have discovered the survivors will just build new nests near by. Good luck. |

I've been using Cyper WP (Demon WP). Used to be able to get one pound of powder for cheap but the EPA put an end to that. You can get the packs Cyper WSP now that you put in one gallon of water I believe.

Quoted: Maybe set off a fogger in there? I have to do that every spring to get rid of the mud daubers (I know theyre not aggressive but they freak me out when I'm in there and they fuck up stuff with their mud nests). Edited to add this is in my shed. |

Quoted: DO NOT area spray if you have cats. It will kill them in a horrible, painful death. Quoted: Quoted: Pyrethrin ? I believe it will kill even those that are not directly sprayed. Walking in it is enough. Also pretty safe for people, so you could spray it liberally. DO NOT area spray if you have cats. It will kill them in a horrible, painful death. Key tip here is, don't bring your cats to the duck blind |

Quoted: I refilled our W.H.Y trap from Home Depot yesterday morning near our apple tree because it was swarming and I can't find a nest. There were at least 30 in it 4 hours later. Hang a few of those maybe. Also tomorrow we will be there around sunrise with more spray. The real problem is I don't know where they are going, or what they are considering their nest now. There is no active paper nest or stub that is visible. |

Then I ran out and quit spraying. |

Quoted: Depending on the time of year the WHY traps can work, and sometimes not. If the bastards have yellow/orange antenna they are the invasive European Paper Wasp and nothing works all of the time. Around eastern Washington and Idaho when it gets dry they get mean nasty. But this time of year they are out trying to find a place to over-winter, not really making new nests. They have a large number out and about so when you kill a nest in the day a bunch come back at night but nothing smells right so they group nearby. By the end of September you should be fine if you do nothing. Quoted: My issue is the blind needs to be ready for inspection and approval by the end of September. I'm not worried about them during the season, it starts October 17th here. But the state wants them done 3 weeks before. Dumb, but the rules are the rules, and if they aren't followed I won't be able to draw anywhere in the state next year. Quoted: An inspection for a blind. I am not sure many of us speak that language. Is there a translator in the house?
