Not done. Still have to change out the passenger side rotor and pads, then go to Summit and pick up a new Bilstein steering stabilizer tomorrow.

That had to have been the worst stuck rotor I've ever seen in my life. I had the oxy/ acetylene torch heating that thing forever before I could knock it loose. Those big rotors suck up a lot of heat.

Trying to get all this crap done before the snow starts flying here.

It really sucks.

Better to do it now than in the snow.

Can't you call one of your former robot coworkers to help?

In Ohio? After dark? I don't think so

I try to start repair jobs on Saturday so it gives me a one day buffer to complete the repair before Monday.

Beat on one rotor with an eight pound sledge till I thought I'd puke. Went out and bought an air hammer. Much easier.

Eh, I'm retired, so no rush (other than beating the winter weather).

Dodge?  I had to beat one off with a sledge and cut the other with a torch. 45k miles.  Salt sucks. And dodge's design too.

I second this. Air hammer usually does the trick in short order.

This is why I coat the bearing surfaces to the hub with never seize. Copious amounts of never seize. Same with all the bolts and shit I take out.

IIRC one time I used a jack under the rotor to "push" it off the hub.  Obviously watch out it doesn't lift the vehicle off the chassis jack.

Or maybe I beat it with a giant rubber mallet.

Good luck!

What salt?

Just went out and pulled the passenger side off. Decided to let the properties of thermal expansion do all of the work. Two torches and time, along with a few sharp blows between the wheel studs to break the rust weld. No drama.  Those rotors are so large, you just have to be patient and let them soak up enough heat.

Or buy a bigger torch set with a giant rosebud.

+1 was reading down to see if it had been said.  I also do the contact area between the rotor and alloy wheels.

I let the rear drum brakes on my Silverado go WAAAYYY past time to change them.

I'm very thankful for the threaded hole in the outer drum that lets you thread in a bolt to push them off.

That and it's 10 years old with the original rotors.  The salt gets in between the hub and the rotor mating surface and does it's thing over time, along with a million heating and cooling cycles.

Big torch is best torch.

The rust belt is a no-go zone for my cars unless it's Summer.  If I have to go there otherwise, I will fly and rent a car.

Well, off to Summit for a new Bilstein steering damper. Got some "Summit bucks" to spend anyway.

And they put salt on the roads for ice and stuff? Does it make enough difference in road conditions to make up for the damage to cars?

Fuck that shit.   I have beat the shit out of too many rotors in my life
