| Monday I will be getting a water well drilled on my property. The cost will be $2800 for the pump(1hp inserted into well), 80 gallon fiberglass tank, 4" well down to 110' with $10 a foot after that. Wells in my area usally are around 120 to 160 feet. i know crap about water wells so I am going by with what this well driller is saying. Does this sound about the norm for price? |
| Just depends on how deep your aquifer is. Mine is very deep. My well depth is 980 feet; just a few feet from the bottom of the aquifer. Make sure that the driller is going far enough down, otherwise you may find yourself with a dry well; that is why mine is so deep. The previous owners had the well run dry on them, and when that happens, at least here, you have to drill a whole new well. |

Are you serviced by city water? If so they may condemn your well if they think you might shut off the tap to them and use the well instead of the ciy water system.
My former boss had city water finally run down the road in front of his home. The city came through and condemned every well on the road. They capped them off and welded the cap. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Around here, I'm getting quotes of $15/ft. But it might be the difference of drilling LA soil vs. mountain/rock. Sticker shock sets in when they start talking $18k. Home Depot has well pumps that run 1/2 hp $380, 3/4hp $390, 1hp $404. But the well contractor of course says they're crap and is selling $1000+ pumps. |

I see you are in Louisiana. That in mind, I would go deeper than 110ft. With the recent natural gas surge, you risk your well being polluted and/or ran dry if they were to put a rig within your area, as they suck up a LOT of water in the area. Even so, 110ft seems kind of shallow to me. Check with some locals in your area and see how deep they are. $10 a foot is cheap compared to having to do it all over again. |

I think that big Nat Gas discovery was in the Shreport area. I am 11 miles north east of Hammond. Not much in oil and gas production here if any. I would let them drill in a heart beat on the back of the property if I had gas in the ground. |
