This photo of Anne Hathaway and Steve Carell getting into retro-character for 2008's Get Smart makes me feel kind of seasick. Carell, I love (I'm so original, I know). He brings so much to the big screen, even in throwaway parts, like shooting hoops with Will Ferrell in Melinda and Melinda—he has a quiet zest. Hathaway, however, kind of overdoes it, which doesn't do it for me. I think of her chomping on that grilled Jarlsberg sandwich in The Devil Wears Prada with way too much gusto. Or working those wigs and that ball-busting accent in Brokeback Mountain, and again, it is not a happy thought.

However, most insidery suit-wearing or coffee-getting movie industry types are all kinds of optimistic about this movie. And maybe Anne's overacting will actually serve the movie well. Hey, Mel Brooks material is meant to be taken to the bulging-eyed extreme.

In any case, pretty picture. Funny picture? We'll see.

Let's hope they don't ruin it! Agent 99 is looking good, let's see if Steve Carell can pull off Maxwell Smart.

That guy is pretty goofy, he might pull it off well. I loved the show as a kid.
