Depends on community vs separate and if there’s kids outside the marriage. George wasn’t married so it doesn’t apply. Lets not forget that Minneapolis paid $27m to settle the lawsuit. Philonise said the money would cover funeral and burial expenses, counseling, travel connected to court proceedings, and other family needs. Most states use some version of per stirpes, as far as I know, but there are other methods (per capita is one), and what Averagebear described is pretty much per stirpes. eta: Then, for me, there's the question of whether this gofundme money is even part of George Floyd's estate. He was already dead when the account was created, so not sure he could ever be considered an owner. (eta: Joker beat me, I swear I didn't see his post and then edit mine...just hit submit and remembered this other point) |

The BLM website had a donation button that went straight to the Democrats. The mayor of Minneapolis, the entire city council, the DA, the House Representative, the Senators, the MN Attorney General, and who knows, Derek Chauvin and George Floyd were all Democrats. Yeah, we need more Democrats to get a different outcome. /s |

Its funny how people react to money. A few years back a client (a company) who had a serious accident and there were several fatalities. The race makeup of those involved were, white, black and hispanic. The families all received nice settlements. Every white family seemed to put the money in the bank, we couldn't tell they did anything with it, didn't buy anything flashy. All the other families bought sports cars, Mercedes, went on cruises, did all kinds of outlandish things and then came back to the company with their hand out. I don't think it was a race thing, I think it was an education shortfall, I just don't think some of those people were smart enough to understand the money would run out. |
It's hard to believe that people were stupid enough to give nineteen million for some scumbag who OD'd while committing yet another crime, but here we are, with more criminals stealing money from the criminals who collected money for a memorial to some criminal. Clown shoes.
