I recently purchased this generator, which has a 9 gallon gas tank. The specs state that the generator will run 10 hours at 1/2 load on those 9 gallons of gas.

My question for those of you familiar with generators is will this generator run longer than the stated 10 hours at, say, 30% load?

Any other insight would be welcome.

Thanks lads.

To what degree, hard to say.

You should look at converting your unit to a tri-fuel generator. This is where I got mine.

You never know how long you'll need that genny going.

I have a 18KW Generac unit that runs on natrual gas.... Nice peace of mind to have!

Did you convert this specific model?  I have an XG7000E I would like to convert at some point.

That generator has a governator, to keep it running at 3600 RPM regardless of load.  Therefore, it will burn less fuel with lighter loads.  I have no idea what the optimum efficiency load point would be.

I've got two and can tell you that running out of gas when it's real cold or hot REALLY sucks. You can put a T in the gas line, buy some gasoline rated line and a 5 gallon plastic gas can and make your own add-on gas tank. When the generator gas tank runs empty, it will automatically begin drawing on the 5 additional gallons. My next generator will be a propane Generac.
