i have a SPEAR vest setup for SHTF. i got pretty much for free when we were doing our milsurp sales. last year i also ended up with an interceptor vest that was surplused. <yes it's legal i checked with dod and it WAS surplused> here is my question. Should i setup the interceptor with mag pouches and other crap for SHTF or keep my Spear rig. The spear is MUCH more comfortable and i can carry a bi more gear. Currently i use the interceptor vest for shoots when i work RSO duties. i pray to god i don't ever need either of them. i'm getting to old to be humpin this shit through the woods. |

oh in that case, gear them both up. The spear is good for recon, fast moving type stuff where you dont want to overheat and are not in immediate danger of getting shot. The interceptor is the opposite, it gets hot, isnt as easy to move, is heavier. But, if you are busting down doors and need protection from some turd that has a .380 revolver, then yes the interceptor is your best friend. Do both and hang em in the closet so you can choose what is best at the time. |
that's probably what i'll do. i think i have less than 50.00 in both rigs. |

I had the option of with plates or without. Put the plates in and never took them out. You get used to the heat and weight when you have the motivation. Even a semi-geezer like me. The gear issue can be solved, too, I think, but that requires thought, planning, expense of trial rigs, etc. I saw a thread (AAR - Iraq) last night where a member (phlii - USMC Captain) went over some of the gear issues you are interested in. It's here somewhere. Found it! www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=10&t=207394 |
