Been a while since I had seen it, was on so I watched it. The scene where Private Pyle was in the head with the M14, Joker looked to have time to tackle him more than once to stop it but he froze. I think "gunny" the DI could have as well as he was so close to him before being blasted. But then it wouldn't make the movie what it is I guess, still holds up well, a bit weird but good. Carry on..... |

Joker projects his humorous persona throughout the film. He does this to avoid confrontation and dealing with shit. However, once he is looking eye to eye with the enemy, he is confronted by the Shadow within him. He surrenders to that primal force and finally kills the enemy sniper. Thus, the duality of man; the two sides of Joker. Honestly, if you look at a number of other Kubrick films you will see that the duality of man is a primary theme (Lolita, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, even The Shining). Kubrick was interested in how a man wears “masks” to conceal his true nature by projecting the opposite. |

All Joker would have had to do was charge, bear hug the rifle, and scream for Sgt. Hartman. There would have been no danger, and it was his duty to protect everyone in that building. |

I am not by any means a badass (I'm a fat retired dude wearing a tee shirt and pajama pants and no shoes sitting on a couch next to his fuzzy little former feral kitty with bad back legs,) but 4 times in my career I have charged a man armed with a loaded weapon and taken him down with my bare hands. Twice* while not armed with a firearm myself. *The asterisk is for the time in my narcotics days when I took down a dude during a warrant entry who raised a S&W 5906 at us. I was technically armed with a firearm for that, though it was a 14" Benelli loaded with breaching rounds that was slung by that point. (I did less-lethal and entry, so carried just a Taser and the breaching gun.) |
