| Huh, I bought my first bottle of this today, too... I found it to be good/quality bourbon. Its very "delicate" and mild in flavor for me. It wasn't bad at all but, given the choice, I'd drink lots of other bourbons before this. I prefer a lot more going on, flavor-wise, with my whiskeys. |

With the high rye, all I can taste is cumin and it's overpowering. Every distiller in Kentucky makes bourbon to bourbon specifications, and while those specs are pretty strict, they all do it differently. The difference in how Makers Mark goes about making bourbon vs 4 Roses or Woodford Reserve is fascinating. |

I'm not a big fan of WR because their shifty little song and dance would have the uninitiated believe that all the bourbon in the bottle comes from those 3 little pot stills. If the bourbon were better, I could probably rationalize my way past that, but it just tastes like lower proofed Old Forester Bonded to me. I will say the visitor's center is beautiful, but the whole concern just has an affected, snooty wine-snob attitude without the bourbon to back it up. Contrast that with the Shapiras over at Heaven Hill who are considerably more down-to-earth and make a helluva lot better product IMO. The Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style is probably my hands-down favorite from B-F. I don't really dig most of their other bourbons and ryes. As far as Four Roses is concerned, I tend to prefer the OEXX variants over the OBXX. The Small Batch gets all 10 variants mixed together, which doesn't really suit my taste. |
