| I was invited by friends to use their vacation home while they were not there. I happened to notice a piece of transparent scotch tape taping the door to the frame at the top on one of the doors. Several other doors around the hose were taped as well mostly bedroom closet doors. I've read enough spy novels to know that it is a trick to see if anyone has opened the door. I do know that they loan their house out to quite a few people and do not think I was personally singled out. One of the doors looked like it had remnants of a couple of tapings. I do think that it is a way for them to keep track of who snoops around when they loan out the house. Left me with a bad feeling. If it is offered to me again it will be thanks but no thanks. Would you feel the same? |

Let me put it this way. If I owned a vacation house, I'd NEVER let anyone use it. IMO, they are being really nice to let you use it - who cares if they are a little paranoid (about burglars, or friends that use the house, or whatever) ? ETA: You could always just take all of them down, and then tell them that when you cleaned the hosue after you used it, you took down those weird tape things that someone seemed to have stuck everywhere (as if you are doing them a favor, and have no idea what they are for) |
| Maybe I am over reacting a bit. I agree that it is very kind of them to let us use the house because I know that if it was mine I would not be so generous and the tape could very well be to see if there are any unwanted guests while they are not there. Nice to have other opinions and ideas. |
+1 I really like this idea! |
Definitely a good idea...I'd be searching for hidden cameras. You know they're there...

| The silly thing is though, tape is easily discovered by the person doing the snooping. a BB placed at the top of the door painted the same color of the carpet is a pretty good method. Most peole openning a door won't notice a BB falling and when the owners of th ehouse inspect for snooping, they will know what to look for. |
