Kinda annoyed and a bit pissed off that someone was flying and snooping my area. I’m in a very rural area and have a 20 acre farm, mostly wooded. Went out today to throw some garbage away and found a drone about 100’ from my front door on the woods edge. Nobody can see my house, I’m not visible for anyone at street level. I have 3 neighbors all 70-100 yards away. I’ve asked and the drone doesn’t belong to them. You would think if it was an accident someone would come ask for their drone back, no? Should I be on edge that thieves use these to scout or something more nefarious like watching my kids? The drone is $120 one from amazon. Nothing special but does obviously have a cam on it. Is there a way to look up the owner of these things? I’m an idiot with tech so forgive me. |
| You concerns are a bit over blown, if that makes you feel any better. If the was the sheriff's drone then you should be concerned. Some cheap drone had a fly away from the kid and then crashed once it ran out of battery. There might be an SD card on it that you can pull to see what they were recording. My drone crashed while filming my cousins place. Even with the GPS coordinates it took 8 hours of stomping through the brush to find it. A cheap drone won't relay GPS coordinates and there is no way to know where it went. |

Yes and no. Pull the card on it and check it out. It could have lost connection, went mustang, and just buzzed off into oblivion before it just died over your place. Or it could be crackhead thieves. Or charge it up, tie a kite tail on it and see if it flies off somewhere. |

Where I live there are no kids, no neighborhood ect. Just a few older folks that wouldn’t know what a drone was if it fell on them out of the sky lol. There isn’t even a place for a card on it that a could find. From what little I read I guess it’s recorded on the controller? |

Much appreciated fellas. Thanks for your help and thoughts. I’m sure I’m overreacting but still raises an eyebrow to me just for the fact of how out there and secluded I am. It’s all good, nothing like getting opinions from GD lol. Most are awesome and great help along with the normal trolls. I think I will impale it on a stake and set fire to it tonight. Will make me feel good if nothing else. Cheers yall! |

I wasn't interested before I got a cheap one for Christmas. It's twitchy and hard to manage, but I still have fun with it. Had something similar happen to me.. Except it was my drone. I bought a cheap amazon special to try my hand at drone flying before I ponied up any real money. I took a sharpie and wrote my name and phone number on it. Well, let me tell ya, they cheap ass drones are a bitch to fly! On my 3rd flight, my confidence got the best of me.. I took her up to a 100' ft or so... It starting going away from me, and whatever I did I couldn't get it to come back... Lo and behold around 3 weeks later, I get a call from a homeowner about 1/4 mile way, telling me they found it in their pasture. I went and picked it up, apologized and inspected it for damage. Surprisingly enough, just a couple scratches but nothing broken. |
