I'm in the market for a brighter duty flashlight....I am issued a streamlight stinger....what can I say it was free (issued)....but it's only 350 lumens...I carried/carry a Fenix TK 11....which is a good light for what it is. However the dual output by rotating the bezel stopped working after about a month...so now it just stays on the brightest setting. Their CS wasn't very helpful when I contacted them about it.

I'm a big proponent of buying USA....I love my Surefire weapon lights...I always try to buy the best I can, to have something last me years is always a good feeling.

I'm looking at a couple different options,

1. Streamlight strion LED HL....500 lumens. Pro= rechargeable and docking ability.

2. Surefire p1r peacekeeper 600 lumens....can't dock, have to remove battery to recharge...about 100 more than strion...but it's a Surefire and I trust their products...

3. Surefire p3x ....1000 lumens...NOT rechargeable....

4. Surefire r1 lawman. Well, too much to list about this one in the pro column. BUT it's freaking expensive.....and seems like it take a special battery.

Another thing that bothers me, is even with all these lumens, their tactical run times are pretty short before they drop. So I wonder how much of an advantage all those lumens are....

Basically I want something for going out on suspicious people/ stops and being able to blind them essentially....and something that'll last as long as I can take care of it.

Just looking for opinions and if anyone has experience with any of the above.

I would look at Olight too.  I gave them to my groomsmen a few years ago and have gotten all positive reports.

I've carried a streamlight 9n until now.

No more bulbs.

The one requirement I haven't seen mentioned.....

I used mine as an impact weapon.

How many of these suggestions will survive multiple corrective thumps?

Seriously,  I hit things with my duty flashlight. Any leds that hold up to that?

I ended up getting the new streamlight strion led HL. 500 lumen....

I wanted something small enough to carry up front on my duty belt bezel down. Have a nice kydex holster coming for it too to carry just like that....

I really wanted a Surefire but they just didn't have anything that really impressed me (other than the lawman) but it's bezel is too big to carry bezel down which was a big factor for me. And it was 300+ dollars

I'm usually a buy quality (USA) only guy, and as much as I hate my streamlight weapon light, their strion seems like a quality light and I know they have a good warranty and CS....I like the Felix I have but with the problem I encountered with it and their lack of CS, made me pass on them again.

Hopefully in the future Surefire will come out with a rechargeable that you can plug in without removing the battery, that's also small enough to carry bezel down.

I carried a Strion for a few years.  Solid choice, especially for the price of them.  Bright little light and mine held up to plenty of abuse.

I use my flashlights as door knockers.  They've been dropped a lot onto pavement, especially the Strion.  Never felt the need to beat someone with one, though.  The Strion I used to carry was kind of small and light to use as a weapon, other than just a hasty weapon because it would happen to be in my hand.  I would grab my Malkoff if I felt the need for something to use as a club, I'm sure it would hold up to it.

I would think LEDs would be more durable than incandescent.

I have been using a Surefire R1 Lawman for about 2 years now and I love it. I have yet to have the battery go dry on me during a shift. Plus I really like the option to drop in CR123 batteries if needed.

I have a Stinger DS LED HL thats rated for 640L and a Fenix PD32 for a lighter day shift light.  I like both

If I was buying now I would get a Fenix PD35 1000L with rechargeable 18650 batteries, rotate them every week

This is my personal light I normally use.  It does have a special battery that is rechargeable, but it comes with an extra battery pack that comes with CR123s in it that you can swap out with the rechargeable battery if you needed/wanted to.  It is a great light and built tough.  We are issued Streamlight DS LED HLs with our vehicles.  These are also quality and bright flashlights.

Obviously nobody clicked my links to see the 4500 and 8000 lumen small lights...

My agency only issues rechargeable incandescent Mag-lites so I ended up personally buying the 640 lumen version of the Streamlight Stinger DS HL and have been very pleased. The beam pattern and intensity really puts supposedly "brighter" lights to shame. My only gripe is it defaults on to 640 lumen mode, I wish it was programmable to the lower setting first as even on low the light is very bright. In fact I use the Mag-Lite for DUII's because even on low the Stinger will blind the heck out of them. The only other feature the Stinger is lacking is an anti-roll head. The rubber thing is useless and I've dropped my flash light more than I want to admit

The tail cap switch on my Stinger(I have the version with both switches) started acting a little goofy and not staying on. It was not too big a deal because I use the bezel mounted switch the vast majority of the time. Streamlight sent me a tailcap with zero questions asked. I've had a similar experience with Surefire when the tail cap on my well used 6P finally bit the dust.

I'm going to be ordering a Strion HL soon so I have two excellent lights handy. My experience with my Stinger has really sold me on the quality and value of Streamlight as a brand.
