So, I try and have a meal in the Iraqi Army chowhall once a day.  The enlisted chowhall closed early so I had to go to the officer mess.  You just come in, have a seat and they bring everything to you.  Don't be worried about the TP.  Remember, these people wipe their asses with their hands.

Food was a corn (I think) shell stuffed with beef (I think), peas and some other stuff and it's fried.  They eat that quite a bit.  It tastes great, whatever it is.  Had some peppers and grape leaves (I think) stuffed with rice, some awesomely soft bread, fresh tomatos and pepper, a fruit smart cola and water.  The food was great and I don't think it's ever made me sick.

Ooc do they really wipe their ass with their hand??

I know it was standard practice a long time ago but I didn't think they still did it.

Do they? And why? That makes no sense. Call me an ethnocentric American with no understanding of other cultures but that one baffles me.

Yes.  When they need to shit, they squat and use water (usually a bottle or bucket or something that looks like a kettle, call them ass-kettles) and their hand to clean themselves up.  Millions of people all over the world do it this way.

Thanks for that.

Stay safe and make it home in one piece. Preferably without having picked up any 'new' hygiene habits.

Tonights dinner at the enlisted chowhall.  You have to bring your own flatware if you don't want to eat with your hands.  Baked chicken, sun dried tomato soup, corn soup, freshly baked bread and grape juice.  Very good, if you ask me.  I'm just so fed up eating the same old shit at the US chowhall.

why do you have a duty pistol on your table in an officers mess? Aren't you an enlisted by your description of your story?

Confused.

Don't be.  My pistol is on the table to conform to AR15.com rules for dinner photos.  I am enlisted and do eat at the Iraqi offficers mess if I feel like it.

TP is for wiping your mouth/face.  Think napkins.  The Iraqis don't use TP in the can so they had to found another use for it.
