Took Joey out to pee and the woods beside our property is a full blown firefly party right now.

I remember fireflies up north, but they are not as common here, I think.

Yeah, there were a ton of them in PA, but hardly any in East Central GA.

That's cool. Apparently it's still winter here. It's been cold as hell the last few days and rainy.

When I came back from being stationed in England, a British teenager whose family we had become friends with came came to the US and stayed with us while going to school.  One night we were sitting on the back porch, watching the first lightening bugs of the year and my son made some comment about them.  Our young Brit friend said, "Those are bugs?!?!?  Oh thank God!  I thought I was hallucinating!!!"

We call them lightening bugs here. But it's always cool when you see tall grass just loaded up with them.

I was scouting for Turkeys on a Management Area on the Suwanee River some years ago, at dark the world became firefly world. Millions upon millions of them, the woods lit up as far as we could see.

My hunting partner and I took a seat and spent a half hour marveling at the spectacular beauty of it. I've never seen the like.

We made the gate just after the MAN had locked it, panicked, having completely forgotten we were supposed to be off the property by dark and contemplating being locked in for the night.......

He was pissed, read us the riot act, and wrote us a warning. Think he was mad because he missed our truck. Worth it.

It was a stunning thing to see.

Nowhere's near firefly weather yet in my neck of the woods.

But here's my parent's place in Kentucky on the 4th of July last summer.  They put on a pretty good show...

As soon as the mosquito abatement trucks start spraying again, you will notice a drop in the lightning bug display.

There is a place near where I live that has the proper elevation and habitat that causes the lightning bugs to synchronize. Supposedly, there are two places in the country and Tennessee has one of them.
