NOOOO!

Mozy or equivalent online service!  Why keep media in YOUR possession?  If your place is destroyed, you lose it all.  Use Mozy!

It's also totally automatic.  Totally.

I'd prefer not to put my data in some random persons possession. I'll keep two copies, one in my safe, one at a friends house.

Windows 7 has fantastic backup and restore facilities built in, and it will allow for a bare metal restore. Simple as can be.

It took 'em long enough. I always wondered why something useful was never included.

Symantic can kiss my ass if they think I'll ever buy Backup Exec from them again.

It's worth moving to 7. I get visibly angry when I'm forced to use XP for something.

Plug in an external hard drive, configure the backup to take an image (works live, while Windows is still running), and then let it do incrementals on a schedule. Done. Don't even have to worry about it.  If your internal drive takes a shit, you just toss a new one in, boot off your Win7 CD, select the backup from the set it detected for you on your external, and pick the day you'd like to restore to. Reboot and enjoy.

It's retard easy, and long overdue.

+1 for Acronis even if you backup on line have the backup copy the Acronis files
the on line stuff
if it took you 6 days to initially backup your PC, it should then take you around 6 days to restore your data to a new PC.

If you want basic mirroring features, microsoft's robocopy can do it easily.  I posted a thread about it some time ago with a script to automate it.  I use it to mirror directories to a nas and to an encrypted file on a flash drive.

I have several 1tb drives that get rotated once a month to a safe deposit box... as well as my own private remote site for data backup.
hot-swappable is OK, but I prefer the "my notebook" drives by WD.
losing your shit sucks...

There's a Linux livecd that I use, but I forget the name of it.
