| OK, I am just sitting down to start playing Fallout 3 on PS3. I've never played any of the games in the franchise, so anything I need to know about the previous games before starting this one? How does it compare with other PS3 games, namely Resistance 1 & 2? |
|
It is not really reliant on any past story from Fallout or Fallout 2 or any of the other versions released, except for the fact that the US and China had a 2 hour war that wiped about most all of life on Earth, and the 2 big factions now are the Enclave (made up of the relatives of the old US Government) and the Brotherhood of Steel (remains of the US Military) and are currently at war to control the various Wastelands. But yeah, get out into the Wastes and just turn some random direction and start walking...you can see all sorts of funny, frightening and interesting things along your path. |
| It's become one of my favorite games. You don't really need to know anything about the previous games (I didn't know much), but if you want to learn about the back story you can go to the Fallout wiki. The story is pretty in depth. |

360 version is better and less buggy, also DLC is available for it currently. PS3 has a game of the year version due out in a few months, but that might be it no DLC. ETA: It is awesome and really pretty seperate from 1 and 2. Both X360 and PS3 will get a GOTY edition with all 5 DLC included. (Oct 2009) |
| I was pretty disappointed with the ending of Fallout 3, also I accidentally skipped through large portions of the story by stumbling across certain places and characters so be careful about that if you want to know what is going on in the story. I have it on the XBOX and it has SO many bugs that I tried going back to replay it again and just couldnt finish it, I am not sure if the PS3 version is the same way. |
| It's not like Resistance at all in terms of gameplay. You do not follow a predetermined path through the game. In Fallout 3 you just wander around the Wasteland going on different quests. I rented it for my PS3 and didn't even come close to having enough time to finish. I'm gonna buy it used when the price comes down. |

I tell all new players this, spoilers be damned... Find the wrecked alien ship directly north of MDPL-13 Power Station, which is a long trek to the north of Megaton; almost directly north. It will be a fight to get there, make sure you have as many stimpaks and as much ammo as you can afford. You'll pick up a unique radio signal as you get close. There you will find a marvelous weapon, one worth the trip. In the early stages of the game, you'll probably need it. Just don't use it too much, ammo is limited. |

With Broken Steel DLC installed, the game doesn't end, and your level cap is raised... |

Delivers 100 damage and a guaranteed critical strike on anything less than a super mutant. Early in the game it allows your character to survive fights that would otherwise result in certain death. Only takes 4 or 5 shots to put down a super mutant behemoth. ETA: There is another downside. Aside from the limited ammo supply, the weapon degrades very quickly. So you need to choose your battles carefully. Keep it in your inventory in case you have a random encounter with something much bigger than you can otherwise handle. After picking up A3-21's plasma rifle and having plenty of Enclave plasma rifles to maintain it, I don't use the alien blaster much. Like I said though, having it early in the game makes life much easier. |

Like Oblivion, unmodded "vanilla" Fallout 3 kinda sucks. It isn't an option with the console versions, but if you get some choice mods it becomes a really good game if you don't go over the top.
If you have a halfway decent gaming PC, I'd pick up that version and sell the PS3 one off. EDIT: If you want more action, head over to downtown DC. |

OK, this game sucks so far. Way too complicated, entirely too much stuff going on, and not enough action... Your dooin it ronge. It is an investment and the first part in the Vault is slow, but you build your character up and get better skills and weapons. It is a ROLE PLAYING FPS. Get into the story. Stray off the main quest as much as you can. There is 10x more stuff to do than just the main storyline and you can be as good or bad as you wanna be. 'Plant' a grenade on a guy and move away. Oblivion with guns. I got bored. Cool idea though. And half as long. I put 180 hours into Fallout 3 and still didn't do all of the quests, and that was the vanilla version. You're doing it wrong. Shit, if you spent 180 hours on Fallout 3 and still didnt do all the quests, then you could probably play Oblivion for 400 hours and not complete all the quests. |

When I play modded Oblivion, I rarely touch the 'mainline' quests. A person can easily blow months just wandering around, doing side quests and checking out the cool 'easter eggs'. |

I have about 600 hours total on Oblivion, and still find new quests and locations. |

Even modded to look incredible, I got bored way too quickly with Oblivion. The leveling system is retarded and ass-backwards too, which made the game more tedious as well. |

Have the PS3 version for six months and still finding new things to explore.
When you get the Alien blaster save it!! I used mine in the Deathclaw Sanctuary, those things are fearsome up close! The only thing better on those suckers is the Fat Man with Mini-nukes. Late in the game you will get a chance for the Explorer perk, get it and be amazed at all you have missed. This doesn't even include all the smaller items like hidden bunkers, drainage chambers etc.. It takes a while to get into the exploring mindset and out of the play thru the quest one. Take your time and look everywhere. |
| I don't think this is my kind of game. All I want to do now is kill everyone, and try and blow up Megaton. Problem is, there are moles, dogs, and Raiders everywhere, and it takes 5 shots to kill anything. Anyone have a PS3 game they want to trade for this nonsense?? |
I hadn't played any of the other games in the series before either, but I had a blast playing it
