Moved in June, signed a 2 year agreement for a starter package, internet, HBO. With tax and all the BS it comes out to $147/month. LOVE watching Cops. Spike runs it all the time. Turn on Spike tonight....."You are not authorized for this channel". Call Comcast, get Hadji's GF. JGAG: I seem to somehow have lost my Spike TV. HGF: Yes, sir, we sent you a notice on January 14th that we would be removing Spike, BET and (couldn't understand her) from the starter package. JGAG: So, I can't get it any longer? HGF: Yes, sir, we sent you a notice on.... JGAG: Yeah, I heard you. So I have a question, am I under a contract with you? HGF: Yes, sir, you have a 2 year agreement with us. JGAG: And am I correct that I cannot breach that contract without penalty? HGF: Yes, sir, you would have to pay a termination fee in order to get out of your contract. JGAG: So how in the actual F*CK can you breach your contract with me, without penalty, yet if I were to do it, I'm in trouble? HGF: Yes, sir, we sent you a notice on Janu..... JGAG: [Not going to repeat what I said to her, but it wasn't nice.] It's bad enough that $150/month is a freakin STARTER package and while it does come with internet and DVR's it's still pretty spendy. And I've done without TV completely in the past, and while it's something worth considering, my point is how the f*ck can these cable companies get away with doing this? I tried my best to be cool with her, because I know it's not her fault, but she's just insulation from the aholes who laugh from their management offices here in the states. They know she's not gonna do anything about it, nor does she give a sh*t. TLDR: Comcast took away a channel I was paying for and now wants $10/month more for it, while I'm currently in a contract with them. |
| I have a theory that this is the main reason they outsource all of it t Habib. If it was an American, people would not ut up with this shit, you'd yel for an hour until you got it fixed. With Habib, he just says the same 5 lines over & over, and it's Habib, so you get pissed and hang up. Real reason for hiring Habib for everything isn't saving money on salaries, it's saving money on fucking you over. |

Comcast announces it wants to stop being the worst company in America
Not making this shit up link |
| They yanked it from me a month ago. No notice. Got a Jan 2016 line up in the mail beginning of the year showing it in the digital starter package. Called and complained tonight a couple hours ago. Claimed they reworked what I am getting now and my bill will be less. No telling what it will be when I get it next month. Guy said he has been getting a lot of calls about this. |

I've been a Comcast customer three years now. Year one and two I was a monthly account and had my rate change twice with no notice. When I got tired of my bill randomly jumping $40 6-8 months later because my "yearly" offer had expired, I finally agreed to go on contract. My first bill was what was expected, what we agreed on multiple times on the phone in the "customer retention dept". EVERY bill since that had been a steady $45 higher and they claim they can't find the recordings of the retention rep making me this offer. Fuck Comcast with a cactus. |
|
What probably happened is Spike, BET and "(couldn't understand her)" renegotiated their contract with Comcast and are asking too much money for them to be in the starter package. So Comcast has to move them up a tier in order to make money from broadcasting them. I'm sure in the fine print it says Comcast can change the contract terms any time they want. Read it next time. As much as the GD bitches about the FSA they sure want to be part of the FSA when it comes to benefiting them. |

A) It's in your contract fine print. Read it. B) Most people (99.9999%) won't bother getting a lawyer & fighting it. C) No one held a gun to your head & forced you to go with them. D) I hate Comcast almost as much as I hate liberals & gun grabbers........... |
|
That sucks OP.
I stay home with the kids all day, so when companies try to screw us I have loads of time to call and insist I get moved up to someone who can fix my issues. "Oh you can't help me? Transfer me to someone who can." I don't have to do it often but my husband is always happy that things get straightened out with minimal stress for him. |

Believe it or not but San Francisco has the best cable choices. There are 3 or 4 different cable companies to choose from. Where I'm at theres Comcast and ATT. Fuck both of them. I go without. I tried that using my phone as a hotspot. No. Fucking. Way. Ended up bouncing all the way up to 20GB with slow ass Verizon before I bit the bullet and have been happy so far. Fingers crossed. |

Wait a second. So you ordered the starter package under contract with those channels. Then they decided to take those channels out sometime later. Shouldn't they reimburse your monthly bill a little bit for taking some channels out? That's fucking bullshit.
I've been happy with Fios, I don't think they would pull this bullshit here. Kind of sounds like you got cocked with that package though? We signed up for Fios last Christmas and at the time they were doing a $400 gift card, 50mbps up/down, and ALL the movie channels for $100/mo. |

From my thread about this last month: Quoted:
Looks like Viacom isn't happy with Comcast. http://fortune.com/2016/01/15/comcast-viacom-channels/ Viacom-owned channels Spike and CMT, and well as Pop (formerly known as the TV Guide Network), are being moved to higher-end packages, in a move that Comcast says is a response to increasing programming costs.
But Viacom said in a statement that that it has some problems with Comcast’s decision. “This action is in direct violation of our agreement and will increase costs for customers who will now have to pay more for networks that were previously included in less expensive packages,” Viacom said. |

If I am under contract for something I expect to get what I am under contract for, especially if its advertised as a "starter kit" for trying to get my business. Way to leave a bad taste in your customers mouth.

The only way to kill those bloated monopolies is to stop paying them for TV. Yup, cut the cable a few years back when they started jerking me around and overcharging me, plus their connection would randomly drop out (never the internet though). So I just said fuck it, I'll keep their web service for 59/mo or whatever it is and went to streaming stuff and an OTA antenna for the local news. |
|
Viacom is full of it. I work for a local cable company, our contract with them was up middle of last year and they wanted $15 more per subscriber (15×4000plus s is a hell of a paycheck each month not counting the $7.35 they was already getting) than what they was getting in the prior contract. We dropped them and picked up some different channels. Not really missed any of their channels. They sent out the same notice to our customers saying we didnt want to negotiate with them, which was bullcrap we tried and they wouldnt lower their rate.
Thats probably why comcast moved them as they would be losing money by leaving them in the value tier. |
|
Was getting tired of the high priced Comcast when my wife's job changed a bit, so we changed over to basic and internet. They bumped the internet speed and even though it kinda sucks only having 20 channels, we're saving almost $100 a month. Total with taxes is right at $75. Looked into Google Fiber when they were blitzing the neighborhood with offers, but, I didn't want to start writing those types of checks again. Probably would have doubled our cost after fees, etc. Heck, I got the old, huge TV antenna that is up in the attic that was here when we moved in, to work. Got all except one local channel.
I miss Velocity, though. And Palladia. And whatever channel that was running Barret-Jackson. For the record, the times I've had issues, haven't been as painful as others have. I had to replace some of those little black boxes when they went bad. And the chick on the phone started to wear on me with their scripted politeness and inquisitiveness while they reset them or whatever, but the local office I haven't had any issues. Ahhh, but it was the local office, so, there's that. |
|
TLDR: Comcast took away a channel I was paying for and now wants $10/month more for it, while I'm currently in a contract with them. Call Comcast back, during business hours. When the automated system comes on and asks you what you need, like 'technical support', Say very loudly and clearly 'DOWNGRADE SERVICE'. Say DOWNGRADE 2 more times. This will route your call to their 'customer retention' department here in the USA. Comcast is hemorrhaging customers by the thousands every month. They have 6000 'customer retention' people here in the USA. Actual Americans who speak English. And they have the power to actually DO THINGS. Tell whoever comes on the line that since Comcast has illegally VIOLATED their CONTRACT with you, by ILLEGALLY removing your Starz service, the contract is now null and void, and you want to cancel all your service. Tell them you have a better package now from (insert name of competitor(s) here. See, it's fucking illegal as hell for them to change your CONTRACT, and send you a BULLSHIT NOTICE about it. That doesn't make it legal. It's a violation of a BUNCH of Federal and state laws to CHANGE A CONTRACT like that. Mention that you've talked to the Office of your State's Attorney General. Look up his/her name. Tell them you are filing a WRITTEN COMPLAINT with the Office of the State's Attorney General. Tell them the guy you talked to told you to cancel your service, since they are now DEFRAUDING YOU. And they ARE. They KNOW they are. You see, Comcast is run by a bunch of LYING ASSHOLES. They planned this from day one. They do this to EVERYBODY. They get away with it with 99% of people. Because they just LIE to them. You were talking to some imbecile in their call center in the Philippines. That's who you will ALWAYS TALK TO. You have to know how to talk to them. They know they are wrong, but they generally get away with this bullshit. Tell them you want Starz back, AND A YEAR OF HBO FOR FREE for lying to you, and for trying to fucking ILLEGALLY CHANGE the contract. Be adamant about it. Demand a full year. Accept nothing less. They will want to give you 3 months, Continue to threaten to discontinue service. It's perfectly legal for you to do this. THEY broke the contract. They KNOW that YOU are RIGHT, and what Comcast did is fucking ILLEGAL. Never EVER let Comcast automatically bill your credit card or bank account. That's like letting the junkies guard the fucking heroin. If they have that, they will suddenly increase your bill by $40/month, and it's virtually impossible to get the money back. If they have that now, get a new credit card, and/or rescind this at your bank. They will rob you fucking blind. Good luck. |

Good luck with that. 1) He signed a contract. 2) That contract (I'm assuming) has a clause that allows them to add or remove channels from the package with X days notice. Sucks but that's how it is. |
|
Personally I would call back, tell them to either give me the channels we originally agreed to and if they refused I would cancel the service, contract or not.
They changed the terms of the agreement. Let them spend the money to go to court if they want to chase you. We cancelled TV with them a couple of months ago, kept the internet as the only other choice is dsl with AT&T but that is dog shit slow around here. |

| I actually like my Comcast service... the cable internet anyway. It's incredibly fast and I rarely have issues with it. I have TV for my wife but I don't watch it much. The trick with Comcast is to talk with their retention department if you're not happy with what you're getting. These are the people that can actually help you. |

He who laughs last, and all that shit. |

Ha,
I'm actually in the process of getting them to run lines to my house so that I can have the pleasure of bitching about them! We have absolutely no options for decent internet where I live. I don't care about cable tv and am not signing up for it......but I will gladly pay them for their internet service when my only other options are Hughes.net or a Dsl line that is 16,000 feet from the station and offers less than a gig service. I had to get 4 people on our road to agree to a 2 year contact at ridiculous prices ($150/month) for Internet only and they will run the line the 3/4 of mile down our road. I will have 150 gig service for those 2 years and plan on streaming everything I need tv/movie wise. It's absolutely worth it to me when I had kids in school that do 75% of their work online and we have to take them into town to use the wifi at the library. No cell service in the house....so I can't even hot spot worth a Dick. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I have Cox, as of two weeks ago, internet only.
For TV, I cut off all but the local channels in 2009 which was then $11.12, now it is over $30 with "broadcast surcharge" and taxes. Screw that, bought a great antenna, so far don't have to put it any higher than inside the attic. Fox is a VHF channel with low power and is the weakest signal. Anyway . . . Cox is forcing every customer without a cable box to rent a mini-box to get their signal for an additional $2.99 per month per TV. My Samsung had already picked up their DTV signals with no problem. Forcing me to rent a useless box and use an HDMI port sent me straight to antenna. Cox preferred internet will cost me $73 per month, and is very reliable. Retention offered me cable and my starter tv for $75 total with 2 rent free mini boxes for a year. The mini box was still a non-starter, plus I had already installed the antenna and made sure it worked. Plus my DVR would not work with their box. With Cox it seems you rent the DVR and then pay again to record content. I'll have my antenna cost made up in a few months and be glad to have that extra $30 in my pocket. Internet only with Cox, so much stuff can be stream to the TV, why not? |
