So I work as a cashier for part of my job at a warehouse store. We get to see a lot of different people and unfortunately there are a lot of people that pay with their gov assistance. I do understand that some pEople need it but the majority that i see come through are women with name brand purses snd fancy jewelry.
So anyway this lady comes through and buys 30 worth veggies and uses her ebt card to buy it. For her second purchase she buys a 500.00 blender and pulls out 500 in cash. Am I over reacting by letting that piss me off? Two customers later another woman comes through with about 200.00 worth of food. She had me ring one item separate so she could get cash back and was mad she couldn't get more than 60 back. Her second order was a bunch of steak and good food that she used her ebt card for. This is a store that you have to by a membership to shop at by the way. And go! |

Quoted: What is a "FSA" an acronym for? It's a cryptic reference to a famous quote from the head of an anti-13er organization: "Six from nineteen is never OK, not even one time." 6th letter of the alphabet = F 19th letter of the alphabet = S 1st letter of the alphabet = A |

It will never stop. Sadly I think this statement is right.... Yep, I was listening on the radio last week when they were interviewing people about the government shut down and how it they think it will affect them. One lady said she was worried she would not get her government assistance and that she might have to get a part time job to feed her children. |
| It will not stop until the monster is bled dry. No matter how many laws, rules, policies, procedures, or qualifiers are put in place, some enterprising chap will develop a plan to get around those obstacles and be in complete compliance. Wanna get really pissed? Google Medicaid planning. It is possible to qualify an individual for Medicaid after moving hundreds of thousands of dollars around. 'Murica! |

There's a local lady who runs what I know to be a fairly profitable business here. Nice truck, dyed hair, decent watch, nails, etc... I've stood behind her in the checkout line at our grocery store and watched her buy food with an Access card on several occasions ![]() IDK if it's actually her card or what, but it's fucking odd ![]() Speed |

They don't work for the money. Of course they're going to waste it. Give a child $20 and that child will spend it without thought. Have that child work and earn that $20. That $20 will be spent much more judiciously. This! My 5 year old has paying chores and seems to keep more money saved than I ever have in my wallet.

Hopefully in before the guy who tried to tell me the other day that "there's no $100k/year people on .gov assistance"
Whole thing is straight up bullshit, and they raise their children to use the system the same way. It's the modern version of inheriting the family business |

It's always possible some of these people using cash are simply buying for someone else(buying club requires membership) who gives them the case to make the purchase with. I agree however this is a LOT of waste that goes to FSA types. The people who deserve these handouts, and will make a better life for themselves because of them, are too ashamed to buy a $500 blender - regardless of who's money it might be. |

Not exactly the same, but they built a large food bank around the corner from me, the road its on is my best access to town so I drive by frequently.
I'm struck by how many Mercedes, Lexus, infinity and Cadillac vehicles I see in the parking lot . Supposed to be one of those last resort feed your family deals, give them $5 or whatever you have and you can fill a buggy. I can never understand It. If you can afford a Mercedes, the insurance and fuel, why can't you buy groceries like everyone else?
Too many of them to be the occasional caught in a tight spot. People gaming a charity for profit. |

| What gets me is that it's gotten to where we have so many working age people who are basically unemployable. Not unemployed, unemployable. Other than menial manual labor jobs they really aren't good for anything else. They can't speak fluently, do basic math, read and retain information, and have poor problem solving skills. Just what in the hell would you pay them to do? |

No shit. For $500, that blender better have a function for sucking my...oh, wait. No, bad idea.

It's the modern version of inheriting the family business Kwame Kilpatrick applied for foodstamps in college (and received them -- broken system) even though his congresswoman mother and Wayne County government father made >$250k/year. In his book he said everyone in the black community does it. |
