Every year I have a couple nests in my evaporative cooler.  I know they're going to be there, and I open the sides with extreme caution and pussiness.  Bastard hit me on the bridge of the nose before I ever saw him.

Escalation was required.  I nuked his entire village and the next one over too.

. . .
   Ow.

At least it wasn't late fall and a hundred of em got after ya.  I hate mowing and weed eating late in the fall.

That is a cicada killer. They fly around here quite frequently and completely ignore humans.

Nope, that is a wasp. I know from first hand experience.

I was spraying some Roundup around in the pinestraw and got stung behind the knee.  They had their nest in one of the bushes by the corner.  I didn't even brush it.   An unprovoked act of agression.
Out came the wasp and hornet killer spray and it was buh-bye you little black and yellow demons.  They hurt like a hot needle to be so small.

I got hit by about a dozen yellow jackets a couple of years ago while weed eating. Dropped the weedeater and screamed like a girl as I ran for the house. Wound up with about 9 stings around my knees.

Next night, once it cooled off, out came the gas can and a match. Vengeance was mine

Yeah, like I said, it's that certain species called a cicada killer. It is not hardly as aggressive as that poster makes it seem. Yellow jackets (not paper wasps as they are commonly confused), polistes paper wasps, bald faced hornets, and by far the worst, the tarantula hawk, are far more worthy of a poster.

When I was a kid, (8 years old or so) my cousin and I were on top of my grandpas calf shed just running around on the roof.  I decided to take a look under the overhang, lying on my stomach, and guess what?  A paper nest the size of a basketball loaded with very pissed off bees.  I got zapped once in the neck and I was up and running.  I leaped off the roof onto a close by tree and vacated the area pronto.  My dumbshit cousin on the other hand, was still on the roof doing the crazy dance trying to swat the bees that were stinging the hell out of him.  He just kept running back and forth smacking himself until he figured he needed to follow my lead and leapt to the tree and down to safety. Stupid shit got stung so many times his eye swelled shut.  But only the one eye, and that made it that much more hilarious.

For the record, I didn't make the poster. If I had, it would have been the tarantula hawk

Hate the bastards.  Every summer I got into a nest of those things while playing in the woods, working in the barn, pasture, you name it.  Bastards even get in your under garments.  Kill'em with fire.

Me too! One attacked me one hot summer day, and I was able to bat it off until I got inside my screen porch. The thing then rammed itself into the screen to get at me. After I left it just sat there waiting. So I got some brake cleaner and a match, and....

While probably very much the same, Gunscrubber works as well...works great on spiders too!

Not sure what kind of wasps we have here, but they're friendly.

The yellowjackets aren't, though.
I've gone after about a half dozen nests in the past 2 years. I generally leave the wasps (whatever variety it is that we have) alone because they keep the spiders and grasshopper population down. I had to take out a couple nests they were building in the cab of my Bobcat, but otherwise I let 'em do their thing. Never been stung by one around here yet. God help them if they break the truce, though.

tarantula hawks are around here all the time, they are not aggressive at all, though i hear their sting SUCKS.

in my experience, yellow jackets are the most aggressive, territorial little sonsofbitches you will find in this area

Yellow jackets and red wasps are the most aggressive of the bees/wasps in central Texas.   Once it starts to get hot  (+90ยบ), they get very territorial, too.

There's a campground an hour or so from here called Camp Yellow Jacket.  Who in the hell would name their campground Camp Yellow Jacket???

I can hear parents telling their kids, "C'mon, kids! We're going to Camp Yellow Jacket!" and picturing the kids running away screaming "NOoooooo!"
