| Can I buy one? If so, where and how much? |
Wrong. Not only do I have a Federal Machine-gun License, but I also posses a Federal Concealed Weapons Permit. Standard-issue, but you have to be a Space Shuttle Door-Gunner. I head they give 'em out to DELTA guys ONCE in a while, but not very often. How else am I supposed to CCW my Shrike when I am off-duty? Sheep |
"Special people", like yourself, that live beyond the laws we plebes must abide by, dont' count. 1986 MG ban - no SCAR's exist that would be grandfathered in. So, for us regular joes - NO FA SCARs. |
....speechless. Sheep |

1) While there is no such thing as a 'Full Auto Permit', theoretically you could get one on a manufacturer's license (or a CIII if you could find a PD interested in seeing one).... 2) Remember that this is FN we're talking about here,, a company who's history is in government sales (they started out as the belgain version of our old armory system), and a company that does not place much priority on civillian sales... If you read the pattern, they market to mil/LE interests, and let the 'I-want-it-now' factor build up (see P90/5-7) in the civvie market before finally saying 'allright, here it is'... Look for a civvie SEMI SCAR in about 5 years, IF the thing doesn't turn up to be a flop like the FNC.... |
WTF is wrong with the FNC. I have one, and it's the best .223 battle rifle I own. The thing is flawless, and has gone bang each and every time I've pulled the trigger. The ONLY problem is the lack of a parts source. But if you know a good machinist, even that factor's not that big a deal. |
The SCAR is great. Plus its not being pushed with dumbass marketing for HK. There are no charts showing how shitty the M16 is. |
I just started sporting wood myself. If you're limiting your discussioin to the SCAR and XM8, that's an easy one. HK says NO to Civilians, FN says YES. End of point. The SCAR is Aluminum, HK is Plastic. The FN is being made in 7.62x51mm NATO, the HK ain't. Oh, and by the way, FN actually has a production contract in their back pocket. Try THAT one on for size, HK. |
