Urologist prescribed me Flomax, haven't started taking it yet

I'm always hesitant to take medications and wanted input from real-world users

Any input would be appreciated - Thanks

I have my doctorate of pharmacology.

My father was having issues; I recommend her see his doc and get this drug.  He is very happy with it.  Very few side effects and really does solve the problem. It works (mostly) directly on the muscles around the bladder neck, relaxing them. Take at night if you have dizzy spells. Take in the morning if you don't.

If you ingest a lot of stimulants, don't.

Are you on other meds?

It works, it's a godsend, and I haven't noticed any side effects. You'll know it when you try to skip a day.

Right now I'll take Naprelan 750mg PRN and maybe an Antihistamine/Decongestant or Omnaris if my allergies act up ( I was taking Tramadol 50mg daily for a while but have stopped it )

My blood pressure is always in the low range

I take it.

It works OK.  It stopped me from getting up 4 or 5 times a night to pee to 1 or 2.

However, the side effect is that it makes it harder for me to sleep.  It also hardens the stool.

I have been on flomax since 2007.

Works great. The only side effect is sometimes retrograde ejaculation.

My urologist gave me a sample after my last bout with kidney stones.

I read the side effects up to "reverse ejaculation", and tossed the box.  It might be a godsend for some, but any possibility for "reverse ejaculation" has me hightailing it in the opposite direction.

How in the polka-dotted fuck , would a man ejaculate in reverse ??

I use Doxazosin instead of Flomax.  Same idea, fewer/no side effects.  No trouble sleeping.  Significant improvement.  Ask your doctor about it as an alternative.

Oh, yeah, its also a $4 generic at Wal Mart.

I stayed away from it.  I know a lot of people use it and it works well, but the doctor told me it started out as heart medication.  I couldn't get used to the idea of taking heart medication no matter what the dosage was for urinary problems.

Not really that funny.   I got some years ago for a condition caused by the ex.  Stress related prostate problems.

Never read the box before.

Felt like I shot a large marble out my dick when I came.  Makes you afraid to have sex.

Shitcanned it quick fast and in a hurry along with her. Problem gone.

I had a Flomax on my truck when I bought it. Too loud, I'd make another choice!

i got it for kidney stones as well. honestly i really couldn't tell it did anything at all. no increase in flow or output, i suppose it could have opened the pipe a bit but i could tell it did anything at all.

In the human male reproductive system, retrograde ejaculation occurs when semen, which would normally be ejaculated via the urethra, is redirected to the urinary bladder. Normally, the sphincter
of the bladder contracts before ejaculation forcing the semen to exit
via the urethra, the path of least pressure. When the bladder sphincter
does not function properly, retrograde ejaculation may occur.

I've been having problems lately where my bladder decides to squeeze itself down to the size of a golf ball at night.  Since I don't wake up for ANYTHING until I've gotten 8 hours, my kidneys are screaming when I do.  (Last month, I think the left one sustained some interior damage;  it was hurting for a week.)

Is that what this "Flomax" is supposed to fix?

Flomax helps me completely empty my bladder.

Mine is oversize and has lost some elasticity from years of holding it in too long.

Not emptying it completely makes one prone to prostatitis, which is fucking horrible.

It also helps BPH.

I have not tried Flomax but I warn you guys to think twice before you try Advodart. If you like having sex I would not try it. If your a monk go for it! I am taking testoserone to reverse the damage. I am feeling much better now.

Every time they run a commercial, I find the need to announce the name of the drug loudly for a while.  It just sounds so fucking awesome.

FLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMAAAAAAXXXX!!!!!!

But hey, there's a bunch of guys on a gun board talking about piss drugs.  Mission accomplished.  Taboo overridden.

If we get into Fiber One bars though, we may be on thin ice.

I have been on it since this past January. For the first couple weeks I had to be careful and get up slow or the dizziness and lightheaded was terrible. I have noticed I seem real jittery since I have been on it, either that or its just the problems of life lately and I am blaming the med, either way I see the urologist in May and will discuss it with him.

ETA: the below post and I have a runny/drippy nose several times throughout the day since starting it.

Stay hydrated.  Avoid caffeine.  Enjoy being able to pee, and with time, sleep through the entire night.

It is a lot better than having a TURP.

There's no such things as "Heart Medication"

Flomax or Tamsulosin is an alpha-1a subtype receptor antagonist.

Simply put that means it blocks the Sympathetic (Fight or Flight) receptors in certain places.
They thought that if you took it orally you could block the alpha-1a's in the heart and have good results, but instead
they noticed that it did a good job of blocking the alpha-1a's in the prostate, so that's mostly what it is used for.

Look up Clonidine. That's an Alpha-2 Agonist, and it is used for just about everything.

Easy there...

Seriously though, the possibility of reverse ("retrograde", whatever) ejaculation was a deal breaker for me.  I'd rather suffer with the stones - not to mention that mine don't get caught at the bladder sphincter, they get stuck at the ureter/bladder junction.

Avodart worked better when I took it but it had more side effects like blurred vision, loss of libido and leg cramps than Flowmax did.

Im 21 and ive been taking it for probably 3 years now. I used to get up 5-6 times a night to piss and go about once every hour during the day. Now its not near as bad. As to the retrograde ejaculation.. personally it doesnt bother me. No sticky annoying messes anymore.... convienent. For both myself and my girlfriend. If i skip a dose im back to normal ejaculation.

From MY prospective I HATE patients on Flomax. it has a side effect of preventing the dilator muscle of the iris from working. This effect is permanent.  Sounds like no big deal until you have to do cataract surgery on someone on Flomax,. Before a Dr.Chang figured it out we were having patients with lots of complications due to Flomax. Now, at least if we know ahead of time there are medications and surgical instruments that will help prevent the pupil from constricting during surgery.
Note the commercial where they say really fast 'If contemplating cataract surgery tell you doctor"

If you truely need the medicine take it, we will get your cataract out when the time comes.   It was a big nightmare before we knew what was going on, now we have ways to help , it still is a PITA but not as bad.

look up 'Floppy Iris Syndrome' if you are interested.
