I'm looking for an 8" boot for brush/wildfires.  I want something waterproof so the will stay dry when I'm at work (washing ambulances).  Heres the kicker though:  Does anyone make my boot with a side zipper?  I could see it being a problem because a zipper compared to a solid boot in a fire but it would be under my fire pants.

thanks
Russian

BTW:  I'm at work and I know some rigs are due back so I'll be in and out

I bought a set of the new globe structural boots. They are pull ons but very comfortable. I tried the zip-ups at FDIC in Indy and they were very comfortable too here is the LINK

Do they need to be some sort of NFPA boots, or just good boots in general?

I know nothing of structural boots.  But, I love Bates boots in particular for regular boots.  Look into their assault boots, like the GX-8 and the M-9.  I wear a pair of black, GX-8 Gore-Tex, zips at work.  They're great, because they're Gore Tex, but they're non-insulated.  I've never needed insulation in my boots, no matter how cold it gets, because the Gore-Tex keeps them dry, and my socks keep them warm.  The boot is supportive, EXTREMELY comfortable, and mine were very affordable.  I think the price has gone up since I got mine, but it shouldn't be too bad.  I love them for all sorts of non-interior activities, from washing the trucks to standing in the gutters flooded by relief valves at a fire scene.

I have a pair of M-6's that are non-zip, non-Gore Tex.  They're summer, outdoor boots that I use for hiking.  They are also great, and have seen some serious wear without any problems.  The sole on the M-series is Vibram, which is far less slippery when wet than the sole of the GX-series, but I've yet to have an accident with the GX's.

Both boots fit WAY better than any other boots.  They fit more like tennis shoes.  I have some Belleville's that I don't even wear anymore because of that.

Well I either need one that will be NFPA for the department or one for work and another pair for the department so....
