I'm doing a trade inter-state.  The other guys FFL wants a copy of my driver's license before he will complete the transfer on his end.  I've never heard of such a thing, is this legit?  What could he possibly want with my dl?

Thanks.

There is no reason for it.  If he is sending it to an FFL that's all he needs to know.

I believe that most dealers need that info for their book. Even if they dont legally need it what could it hurt. I would comply with the request. $.02

I know in VA your SSN is your DL#.  I guess I'm just paranoid.  I've just never heard of anyone asking before so I thought I'd ask.

Actually the FFL asking for my DL received a handgun from me to transfer to the other party in the deal.  He wants my DL as the sender of the firearm.

I was asked for this info once, I called and asked why and was told it was so he could log the gun in. I sent him the info. It didnt cross my mind at the time, but every time I have traded a gun to a dealer they ask to see my dl for the same reason.
