I sold a gun and was going to ship it to the guys FFL and now I am being told that I need to find a local FFL and a way to get to them to have this sent.
Do I have to have an FFL to ship a gun to an FFL or can I send it myself???? help |

Some receiving FFLs insist that you use an FFL to send the gun, but to my understanding of the law, you don't legally have to do that. You must ship it overnight, however.
Regardless, you are at the whim of the receiving FFLs wishes. You can't force him to accept it from you. ETA: When I say to ship it overnight, I mean with a private carrier (UPS, FED-EX. Not the USPS!). |

Do I have to have an FFL to ship a gun to an FFL or can I send it myself???? help Check with your local pawn shops. Many of them have FFLs and will ship for you as a way to make a little extra cash. The buyer should reimburse you the extra funds it's going to cost unless you had a prior arrangement. When I'm selling I always tell the buyer I can ship for $x or for $x+30 if the gun has to be shipped by an FFL. Lots of states don't require this by law, but lots of FFLs do. BSW |
