SPRINGFIELD - The FBI stops a plot to bomb a building in Springfield. According to the U.S. Attorney' s Office , Michael C. Finton, also known as, "Talib Islam," of Decatur made his first court appearance Thursday on charges of attempted murder of federal employees and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. Officials say Finton drove a vehicle containing inactive explosives to the Paul Findley federal building in Springfield and attempted to detonate them. The explosives had been supplied by undercover FBI agents who had been following Finton for 2 years. Agents say Representative Aaron Shock's Springfield office was Finton's second target. Schock released the following statement to WMBD 31 this afternoon. "My office was notified today of the attempted terrorist attack on both the Federal Building and my Congressional office in Springfield. I am incredibly grateful to the FBI for their fine work in preventing this terrorist attack." The affidavit says Michael Finton made three videos in which he spoke of his belief that America is at war with Islam. If convicted, Finton faces a maximum penalty of life in prison. This happened the day before. Five members of the Gee family were found murdered in their Beason, IL home. Only one little girl survived what the police are calling it ‘a brutal homicide against an entire family’. Beason is about 45 miles north of Springfield, Illinois. The dead include Raymond ‘Rick’ Gee (46-years-old), Ruth Gee (39-years-old), Justina Constant (16-years-old), Dillion Constant (14-years-old) and Austin Gee (11-years-old). Tabitha Gee, 3-year-old, survived the attack and is currently hospitalized in Peoria, Illinois. She had to be identified by her grandmother. Rick Gee worked in construction and as a handyman while Ruth was a stay-at-home mom. They have an 11-year-old daughter with a severe brain injury that is in a facility in Peoria, Illinois. Rick has an older daughter who lives in Beason. On Tuesday, Logan County Sheriff Steven Nichols reported that the police received a 911 call at about 4:30 p.m. (CT) on Monday, September 21, 2009. The bodies were discovered when law enforcement arrived at the home. Authorities have warned residents of the small farming community to keep their doors locked and be aware that the perpetrator of these horrific crimes is still on the run and is armed and should be considered dangerous. Autopsies were performed on Tuesday. At this point, law enforcement officials are not releasing any further details about the crime scene or causes of death. And some of my friends and family think I am paranoid for having guns and ammo!! Who is crazy now. ![]()

I don't know about you but if somebody is coming to blow me up and you know about it I'd appreciate if you told me beforehand. |

If a truck full of explosives is a "WMD", then Iraq was overflowing with 'em and Bush was right all along
Don't get me wrong; this guy needs to hang, but I dislike the gov't playing games with terminology. |
