I saw this over on the varmint hunters board I frequent. Picture is of a rabbit being shot with a .17 caliber rifle. Spectacular terminal ballistics. 10 pics of what happens after impact.

Follow the posts where it is labeled pic2, pic3....all the way to pic10, the board it is posted on has a different format and is kind of a pain to read. I think it will be worth your time if you are curious towards this.

disclaimer: These photos might shock some of you and are not for the squeamish or easily offended. If you are easily offended go ahead and take a look anyway.[:D] I like sticking it to people who are easily offended.

From what I know, 200-250 yards. Because it is such a small projectile, it tends to be a bit wind sensitive.

I've shot my buddy's Remminton 17, its kinda like a necked down 223... only this sucker shoots 4300+ FPS... can you say "Red Mist"?

The humidity or dew point must have been just right because as we shot it, you could actually see a straight vapor trail like a laser after the round was fired... just like shootin' a rail gun!

Lotsa fun,
M.

What a waste of tasty wabbit meat.[grenade]
Can't even use the little rodent for stew!  I think I'll go out on the back deck with my WristRocket slingshot and get one for lunch...

Yep, once I get one, I'll set up the ol' Brinkmann GrillKing Deluxe with some mesquite blend Kingsford, and slow-cook the little devil after marinating in beer, soy sauce, and some Lea & Perrins.

One of my earliest hunting experiences involved an unlucky rabbit. I was around 11 or 12, and using my Dad's Winchester pump. I was hunting our farm with an older, more experienced, friend. We were walking along a hedgerow when we saw a rabbit sitting still, perhaps a dozen feet away. I pulled up the 12 g to shoot. My friend started to stop me, hesitated, and then said go ahead. I aimed and shot. The rabbit was pretty much vaporized by the full choked load. Oops. It was a lesson well learned.

Hehe, going to that site was fun.   Seem to be my kind of folks.   They'll likely enjoy my site if I post it over there shortly.

I recently got a digital camera for taking still pictures, I'm thinking about getting a digital camcorder as well and if I do that I'll be able to record some decent shots on squirrels if I get a camcorder with a 22x optical(no digital crap) zoom.   The current video clip on my page had to be done at an extremely limited distance because the optical zoom only went to 10x, I took the shot at a distance of less than 50 yards and nearly missed cause I was shooting so low in the dirt, it's a shame because it would have been a spectacular hit if I was dead center instead of just grazing it across the belly.

Those guys will probably drool over my AR10 when I eventually get a 243Winchester upper for it so I can start throwing 55-60grain varmint bullets out of the barrel at warp speeds.

I use 75 grn V-Max's in my 25-06 on jackrabbits, I can usually step off 25-30 paces from the extreme spread of chunks, I am going to have to get a video camera!

Let's compare this "footage" to the Zapruder film. The bullet impacts from the right to the left, yet the body of brer' rabbit actually flops a foot or so in the direction of the shot, not downrange as one might assume. President Kennedy was hit from behind, yet the film shows Jackie picking up his brains off the trunk of the car. So the bullet might not have come from the front, and the grassy knoll conspiracy buffs might be wrong! [:D][;D][:D]

Nice work, AK2KX, but repeat several frames of the first pic before the sequence so we can see brer' rabbit peacefully sitting there, unaware that Billy Bob the Bunny Blaster is about to terminate him with extreme prejudice. [BD]

Needle guns they call 'em

I want that kind of explosiveness, I need that kind of explosiveness.

There is a website

http://www.saubier.com/smallcaliber/

where they have listed calibers as small as .10.

I went and looked at a .17 Rem tonight. Rem 700
with an exquisite trigger. I think I gotta have it.[:P]

Beans are too high here anymore. The last two times I have been out I haven't been able to see any. I'll just wait till the beans come off and those poor critters will be standing in the fields nekkid just begging for it.

Maynard, guess your just outstanding in your field. But I don't wanna see ya'll nekkid... [:O]

FattyM4, even though the PA GAme Commission keeps us in the dark ages with a "semi" ban, we can hunt em year round.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to affirm hunting as a RIGHT not a privilege? The PGC says it can be taken away from you.
Thats a loophole that peta could try to exploit. I get it, a hunting loophole...

If only some of those people who control the hunting regulations could see the fruits of their labor. We are real thick with most animals here this year and we have had some real winter weather here the last two years.

I'm seeing lots of 'coons. I'm hearing more people compalin about them getting in their garbage this year then ever before.

Hunting and hunters have been mocked as being bloodthirsty rednecks who live for nothing more than to kill...that very well may be true in my case[:P]...but who will people turn to when we are over run with vermin.
