I have an earthquake rider. But it's only for 70% of structure replacement cost. It's the best my insurance offers. But I've got other coverages that will make up the difference.

2 out of 3. I don't think it covers pyroclastic flow or ash fall.

You have co-insurance that will pay your 30% deductible?

Call your agent for a clarification

When work goes like it has today, I wish I was an asteroid rider . . . like Slim Pickens.

I'da never thunk earthquakes could happen here in South Texas until we had a 6-point-something a couple of years ago.  Rattled the house pretty good.  SonOfBlammO and I got the epicenter coords from USGS and went there as part of his driver's ed training.  There was a house sitting at the spot.  Looked fine from the outside.  But now I'm just rambling.  Did anybody see a chicken? . . .

I used to carry Earthquake Insurance through USAA.

Then the State of California outlawed that practice and required me to buy into an unfunded State program with a $50,000 deductible.

California Earthquake Authority or some such bullshit.

Sound familiar?

I've had it for at least 25 years living so close to the New Madrid.  It doesn't come close to covering all losses like regular homeowners does but it is much better than nothing.  It only adds about $250 annually to my homeowners policy.

California Earthquake Authority, bullshit indeed
$72,500 deductible
$1250 yearly
Hell no, I'll take my chances.

Haha, it was a lot cheaper before the state got involved.

Yes.

One time my sister turned her vibrator on "High" mode and the ground started shaking. Ended up spraining my ankle.

No need for it in my part of NC.

Big need for it here but our house is 100% masonry so not insurable.

Nope. The deductible could pay for the repairs

Yep, and I told them to fuck off. I refuse to carry it now.

You must be in a VERY high seismic hazard area.  What part of the state do you live in?  I'm in San Diego.  Replacement cost of my house (per my existing insurance policy) is $212K.

I went to the CEA's premium calculator page.  It quoted me $104 per year for a policy with about a 15% deductible.

ETA I tried lowering the deductible to 10% and upping the Part C coverage (loss of use) to $10K.  That bumped the annual premium to $147.

Did the CEA tell you that they had no money to pay claims?

I didn't ask, but that seems like an issue I could take up with my Farmer's agent should I decide I am interested in a CEA policy.

I checked into Earthquake insurance two years ago, annual cost was extremely high and coverage only paid for repairs after I paid for the first $100K of damage...ridiculous.
