I'm trying to redo my back drum brakes today on my 99 Taurus.  I can't get the parking brake spring off of the parking brake adjuster.  Any ideas?

I bought a whole set of rear brake tools from the parts store.  I finally got it off by using a screwdriver to push the spring back and another to lift the end out.  Now I can't get the thing back together.  I also can't get the lower return spring hooked on the front shoe.  This is kicking my ass today.  Looks like I'll spend my whole day off working on this.

I bent the spring tool beyond use but I finally got the lower return springs back on.  I still can't get the parking brake line reattached.

Any suggestions?

I know its a little late but on GMs I do not remove the Parking brake, not sure if yours is the same.   Try gripping the end of the spring with a good pair of vise grips and pulling it back together....

One the other side I was able to replace everything without removing the parking brake adjuster.  Took about 30 minutes for that side.  It was a pain in the ass but I finally got it reattached with screw driver and some diagonal cutters.  I'm bleeding from about every knuckle I have but I didn't have to pay someone else to do it.

There is a tool that craftsman and MAC I think sells that is for working on the springs of drum brakes my Dad had one and I got it from him years ago.  I don't know if they make it anymore but it works like a charm on mine.  I'll look for on and post one if I find one
