[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Do You Remember Your First One? (Page 1 of 2)

| When I was 13 years old I saved up all the cash I could scrounge and purchased my first real firearm. My parent's wouldn't buy me anything more powerful than a BB-gun, so I had to provide for myself. I didn't know "jackshit" about what I needed, but I did know what I liked. There was a store, at that time, named "Sky City". Yeah, I know sounds kind'a like a head shop doesn't it?! They had some reasonably priced firearms of various quality and chamberings. I fell in love with a little F.I.E. .410 single-shot shotgun. I remember it had nicer wood furniture on it than most of the others in the rack. I finally got a little over $60.00 saved and made the purchase (with my mom's help). I also bought a box of shells. I'll have to be perfectly honest here; there wasn't a bird (or any other critter) which was safe after I got that little scattergun home! I remember just how "grown-up" I felt with that lil' gun in my charge. Time came and went. So did that pretty little shotgun. I wish I'd never parted with it now. I'm turning 40 this year. How time slips past.... |

Yep, a Mossy 500. They were new to the market, and the first "real gun" I brought myself. Still have her, and save a few dings and scratches she is as good as the day I took her home. I was 13 and who would have thought that when I became a LEO the issued me a 500 in nickel. |

Yep! Norinco SKS Sporter, new in the cosmoline for $110 with a case, ammo, tagets & a spike bayo. Man, I love that rifle; too bad i had to sell it when I ETS out of Ft Stewart. Sold it to a fellow soldier. Hopefully, he's enjoy ing it more than I did. But what the heck... C'est La Vie. |

I was in the sixth grade. I went hunting with my brothers and sisters. It was Thanksgiving. When we got back home two of my brothers quizzed me how to clean the shotgun. It was a 12ga winchester pump with a full choke from Sears and Robuck. I had shot my first turkey that day. When I cleaned it, racked the slide, and handed it to my second oldest brother he looked at it. Then he smiled to my other brother and handed it back to me and said, "here is your first gun, it's yours now". "Take good care of it." It was like Christmas. I never forgot what they did for me. Today I know more about fishing, hunting, and trapping than they do and far more about guns. I am grateful for what they did for me and I repay them by making sure they have every opportunity to hunt and fish with me whenever they can. Two months ago my brother celebrated a big birthday. He was a 101Airborne, 1st brigade, A company. He was a mechanic/rifleman. All my siblings and parents chipped in cash so I could build him a AR-15 with origninal Colt SP1 upper with bayo and steel Colt LE mag in a mahognany display case. I included his medals and patches. The look on his face was probably what I looked like over 20 years ago. |

Marlin Glenfield bolt action .22 LR/L/S Dad bought it for me and my brother in 1988 Still have and shoot it and everything Great gun! ETA: My dad bought Remington 760s just before my sister was born for my brother, sister and I. It must still be in the box somewhere. |
+1 I still have it. Mine is the 60w commemerative youth model. Not the most accurate I own, but, like women, your first doesn't have to be your best to be special. |

Since amost every gun that my father had when I was a kid is still here in the family, it's hard to say which one would be my first one. I know that the first gun I ever shot is a Marlin Golden39A .22LR. It's here in the safe, still in excellent shape and quite accurate. The first handgun I ever shot was my dad's Colt 1911, made in 1918. That is also here in the safe. First shotgun: Belgian Browning Auto 5, Light Twelve, 26" barrel, full choke, vent rib. Also my father's. I haven't formally inherited or been given any of these as of yet as my father is still very much with us. But those are promised to me. My other brothers are getting some of the other goodies in the safe. It works out that we all are getting the guns we like best from the collection. In general, any gun that comes into my family never leaves it. I know of just two exceptions. One, a S&W 659 that was traded in for a Glock 17. Nobody thinks it was a bad trade. Two, my father sold his pre-'64 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, in .308, with Leupold variable 'scope (correct early 60's vintage), which had been fired NO MORE THAN FORTY TIMES, to an uncle. This would have been about 20 years ago. He sold it to my uncle for 150 bucks. He has never been permitted to live down that particular sin, that of selling a gun that one of his sons may want. He won't do it again. For any gun to be sold or traded, ALL of us have to approve the transaction. CJ |
My brother still has the "60" he brought after I got the Mossy. He was 19 and could not be shown up by the little brother. He now has a .45, a SKS, a Mossy. 12. Guess I started something |
| Yep, still have her. Savage-Stevens Model 78Y .22 I got when I was 9 which was almost 32 years ago. Still shoots like a charm. I just refinished the stock and want to get it reblued. I have no idea how many snakes, rabbits and squirrels that thing has bagged. Will pass it on to my grandchildren one day. My first grandchild will be here any day now too! |

My first purchase was a Berreta 92FS with the box, 3 15rd mags, and a CASE of Black Tallons! All for $200 cash from a cop when I was 16! We did the deal sitting in his cruiser in the Pizza Hut parking lot...ahh, the good old days... After that, I bought from Wal-Mart, with the help of my dad, the obligatory 10/22. I wish I still had that pistol, but I traded it for a Glock 21. Dumb move. That 21 was a fun gun, but wasn't very reliable. I had several, like 15, FTF with it, and the last time she did it to me was during qualifying for my CHL. Went to the fun show the next day and traded for a Glock 30. Love that little pistol, carry it everyday!! Edit to add a memory: So this cop was showing me the gun, and it being new to me, he loads a round and puts it on safety...which drops the hammer. Not knowing about decockers, I about shit when I saw that hammer drop....I just knew he was going to blast a hole in his radio in the dash hahaha |
I had two of those! Sold the beat up one and I still have the safe queen. Very nice furniture!! I'll have to shoot a pic of it next time it's out. |
Dad, you got to see this Luger...luger...luger...luger....luger... |
Yeah, pretty much. Pssst...btw...L-U-G-E-R. |
| My first nephew was born last October. I bought him a .22 Cricket, black finish with brown laminate stock....wish I could have afforded to buy him a life-time NRA membership. Poor little guy is going to grow up behind the lines in PRNJ. I'll train him right if he comes out to visit. |
Same one I got at 13 as a Christmas present. |
| I have always had some gun around the house......but the best ONE.... was one day I came home and my wife gave me a card......and in it was a note saying I have set back the money for you to go and buy yourself an AR15 rifle......I have since bought many many many others....but that one stands out the most.... |
