Since I travel full time for work I’m in and out of airports all the time. Do airport restaurants only hire the slowest, dumbest, and laziest of candidates in the labor pool? Seems like every one I go to is slow as shit, the orders are almost always wrong, and they just don’t care about fixing it. What gives? Also, by the looks of some of them, I’m sure they haven’t passed a background or security check. |

To be fair, most non-professional travelers also suck as humans. A few weeks ago, I was sitting at the BBQ place in HOU, 2 seats down from me was a drunk as fuck woman and her tipsy husband, acting like a complete fucking jackass. "OHHHHHHHH MY GOOOOOOOD MY FIRST PLANE." Yeah, and you're 5 Jack and cokes are gonna sit fucking great. You're going to be fantastic to sit next to. |

Yes. Not sure what more you expect. In large cities they are part of a giant corrupt enterprise, so they get the cheapest workers possible from the inner cities. In small towns and cities that have airports and no giant tax base to fleece, they are shoestring... again hiring the worst that the least amount of will buy. |

I have a friend who got a job for the TSA, he has told a few funny stories about the idiots that work at some of the places. But even the TSA does recognize work ethic, he was there for 6 months and has been sent to a few schools and is now a supervisor in charge of an entire section of the airport. He is apparently not liked by some lazy co workers because they have worked there for years and are still metal detector idiots. |

I always end up eating those awful pre-made sandwiches that all airports sell. Had a couple hour layover in Georgia on a recent trip. That airport was huge but on both legs of the trip I wasn't able to get any food. Either the restaurants were closed or they had absolutely massive lines. Side note. Why do all restaurants have those awful pre-made turkey sandwiches. Flavorless turkey, with white flavorless cheese, on white flavorless bread, with a slice or two of lettuce (the taste of which overpowers everything else). It is pure hell. Why do I keep buying them. |

It's not just the restaurants. We were arriving in Chicago on an international flight when we were met by this ghetto hambeast barking orders at people. It was freaking embarrassing that this was how visitors to this country are "greeted." When we flew into Canada earlier this year it was completely different. Employees of different races and genders, but they all were polite, friendly and cheerful. |

Do fast food at any of the decent fast food places, which often includes Chik-Fil-A, Panda Express, and Subway, or find your way to the Club. Admittedly, some clubs suck. C terminal at O'Hare is hardly worth the price. If you're ever flying through Dubai, make sure you do it in a way you have access to Emirates business / first class lounge. |

If that's the goal, go to the club which will be better in all respects except for (maybe) the food itself. Maybe because some of them have amazing food. |

They don’t pay particularly well, and working at an airport is a pain in the ass. Park, take a bus, go through security, just to punch in working with a bunch of half drunk stressed out people. Having worked line mtx for a while in a previous life, they are usually really good people, just tired of dealing with the public. |

The local airport is doing the best they can to keep a cafe open in the terminal. They've gone through several operators in the past few years. The current cafe owners signed a multi-year contract expecting a certain amount of foot traffic, only for the major airline to pull the plug at the end of the summer. The cafe owners are basically working for free now and relying on outside catering jobs for any revenue. |

Surely they have enough business to afford to bring the full menu to the airport on their Sysco trucks. You're discovering what all the pro travelers already know. It's just not worth it, unless you know it is. But if you know it is, you don't need us and have crossed into "pro" territory yourself.
