Just when I had everything chugging along great I ran into another problem, I couldn't play a CD. I know my sound card worked because I can see media player movies. When I put in my music CD it gave me a media player error. I could not locate the driver for my sound card. I did the msconfig thing and put an "x" by the 2 "ati" boxes. I had also ran some diagnostics earlier. Eventually I got the cd to play. Anyhoo, everything is big again, my screen resolution and the colors went back to 16bit. I unchecked the things I checked to get my CD to play but I can't change how my monitor displays. It will not display the "apply" button, or maybe I just can't see it because the box runs off my screen. I am using windows 98 second edition. I don't know what I did wrong. I'm not even sure when it went wrong but it was somewhere between trying to play the cd and doing the few changes I did to get it to play. I tried to install the sound card driver a few times and it made me restart without going through the process of installing the drivers. That's when I got the bright idea to go into msconfig and look at my startup stuff and I checked the two boxes. I have since unchecked the two boxes but everything is still big!!! I can hardly tell what I am typing! help me. |

No, I am not on dial up, what would that have to do with my screen resolution?!? All I know is something happened when I did a few things to play a CD and now my screen resolution has defaulted to something that I cannot change. I do not have an "apply" button when I make a change. I don't know if a driver was overwritten or what. I put in my diagnostics CD and changed a couple things in my startup.ini. I tried to redownload the directx driver I was using successfully but it did not fix my display problem. I don't want to do anything to really "f" it up, it seems like it should be an obvious problmem, (except to me of course!) |

I'm a dumbass!!!!! But I figured out how to fix my problem. I got to one of the screens in display and simply hit enter!!! The "apply" button was hidden, I just had to get to the right one and hit enter!!! I still don't know why it reconfigured itself but no matter, I'm just lucky I didn't really screw it up. It would be nice if we could just delete this thread so the whole world doesn't have to know what a dumbass I am!! |
The edit button works nicely...that is unless someone quotes you. Then there is a trail of evidence in need of cleanup.
