Looking at the Uniden BCD536HP

Open for suggestions from the hive.

ETA: this unit does not have a battery backup which will be a pain since a power surge or short outage and its reprogram time. Looking for something along this line that does have a backup.

I'm not sure what you're talking about with the battery backup thing.  I have a BCD536HP,  and it has never lost its programming during a power failure.  Even if it did, it would take me all of 3 minutes to reload the programming from my laptop.

I also have a BCD436HP and I love the hell out of both of them.  The BCD436HP is a handheld that has batteries, and is for all intents and purposes the same as the BCD536HP in all but form factor.

One of the reviews mention the no battery back up. Since you have one and it has not lost any memory during an outage. Thanks for posting about it.

I think I found the review you're talking about.  Is this it?

"
I'm not going to use it as a
mobile device, but it comes with everything you would need to go mobile,
including a window mount antenna. Scanner does not have internal
battery backup. I guess if you loose your house power, you can plug it
into your vehicle."

If so, he's not talking about the scanner losing it's programming, he's talking about not being able to use it when the power is out since its only power sources are 120 VAC or 12 VDC with no internal batteries.  The 536 stores its programming on a micro SD card, so the memory is not volatile.

I hate it when the house power gets loose.

The BCD436HP has all the same features and is handheld (aside from the wifi).   It will work great plugged in, then it will work with batteries when the power is out.

The battery issue is the failure of the Real Time Clock micro battery that provides a hold up charge for the audio recording date time stamp. A firmware patch has already been issued.

The radio will not lose memory if power is lost. The 536 / 436 series are excellent. I have the 436 hand held. It works great on simulcast systems and supports P25 phase 2.

Also, the Whistler WHS1095 should be out soon. It's a mobile version of the PSR800.

Appreciate the help and clearing up how the memory works.
