I have been using this platform both issue and personal for over 30 years.
It is a classic full sized servicempistol with some models being a nice evolution/progression. It’s like a 226, 1911, BHP, etc. everyone should have one and try it out. A few issues with it, Everyone has come to expect a handgun platform to be available with options for supressor host, plus sized game gun, full sized service pistol, centurion/commander types, compact, and sub compacts with magazine compatibility, sight selection, etc. we have also become accustomed to comparatively inexpensive parts for upgrades, easy availability of parts, and large aftermarket support. SA gun’s have significant waning popularity in mil, LE, and many things except certain competition classes. Striker guns have had a massive gain in popularity except for some competition divisions. DA/SA- minus Production, SSP and some CC who prefer a safety, has heavily waned. Especially slide mounted selector ones. CZ has largely stepped in and offered most pistol line expectations at very competitive prices for all metal guns. The 92 and Beretta overall have a few issues. They never got the reliability they wanted in a shortened upper and their compact is not a true compact. They have never developed a shorter hammer spring, strut and this limits how short the grip can be so no subcompact. Even if they did the huge trigger guard and mag release placement interfere with that development as well. Many versions do not have easily replaceable sights or a rail. The grip is relatively huge. The scalloped rear update or the vertec grip address this. Most models do not have a beveled magwell or checkered grip. You have to be very selective to get, if you can get, a model with the options you want. They brought out the cougar to address size options. There were some reliability issues with some departments, nobody was interested in a rotating barrel, it used 92 mags but with a different mag release location. Non 92 mag compatibility was crushing. The 9000 came out to fill the subcompact niche. A minuscule slide to work, hard to use selector, horrible trigger, grip material quality, and only kinda sorta 92 mag comparibility combined with design emphasis on cool looks instead of function led to a predictable outcome of the line. The 90-two, a marketing, confusing fiasco, with emphasis on looks, a loss of legacy upper/lower comparibility, and slippery grips held on by one little nib of plastic were again an obvious outcome. The PX4, slippery grips, non compatible mags, rotating barrel, inability to make a true PX4 subcompact so a totally different operating system for it, is like a greatest hits of features of multiple previous failedmlines.

Nice pistol - but the one photo is not an M9 Military or Police model. Its lacking the "cage code" ( Commercial And Government Entity Code - or CAGE ) on the slide and the "P B" that is no stylized. Also missing the "M9" Slide designation and the 7 digit Frame Number. So its either a commercial/civilian 92FS ...OR someone messed up and put an incorrect photo on the website. |
They aren't bad guns but what is anyone going to do with it beyond use it as a play gun?

Was training for a deployment a few years ago. Two weeks shooting the Sig 229. I was nailing it. The instructor brought out some M9s. I was WAY faster and more accurate with the M9. It's also the pistol I shoot best.
