Golfers Robbed Grand Prairie golfers robbed at gunpoint 09:39 AM CST on Saturday, December 1, 2007 By BYRON HARRIS / WFAA-TV WFAA-TV The course has trimmed shrubs near some of its fairways to reduce hiding spots. Also Online Byron Harris reports Golf's been called a good walk spoiled. Seven golfers in Grand Prairie would probably agree with that. Over the past two weeks, they got robbed at gunpoint in the middle of their game. Like all crimes, the report came in to the Grand Prairie Police Department. "For dramatics, he was racking the slide back on his pistol, as if chambering the rounds for the dramatics of the people who were his victims," said Alan Patton, a police spokesperson. But this was on the fourth hole and the seventh hole at the Riverside Golf Club in Grand Prairie. Twice in the last ten days, armed men came out of the woods on the course's most secluded holes and pulled a gun. "[They] robbed them of their wallets, watches and cell phones," Patton said. In one case, the suspects used a golf cart as an escape vehicle. The course wouldn't let us on their property, but some players told us the course guaranteed security where the robberies occurred. In addition to robbing golfers, the suspects also stole the cash from a drink cart attendant. Police think they live in apartments near the course. One man with a corn row haircut, may have been in both robberies. The course has trimmed shrubs near some of its fairways to reduce hiding spots. Golfers, meanwhile, can quit, or be philosophical. "Golf is stressful. If you get robbed it's just part of the deal," said John McQuirk, a golfer. E-mail [email protected]. |
